8 jobs, all involved in some aspect of shipping/exports. To begin with I had 4 jobs in as many years then I stayed with a company for 20 years, albeit at 2 different locations.I've also had a
few intervals of unemployment but have been lucky to be in work most of my life.

I have had three jobs (the third job I had twice, on nonconsecutive occasions)

1. Engineering assistant, summer 1999.

2. Library assistant, summer 2000.

3. GIS Technician, January-August 2002, and again from October 2003-August 2007. This was for the same organization.

the number of jobs I've had isn't represented on the poll choices.

I've lost count. But then I was a 'temp' secretary through most of my twenties so often spent a few weeks here, a few weeks there.

Worked in more offices than I can remember, office junior at a firm of actuaries, exams clerk in a college, worked in a sandwich shop until I cut my finger and they sacked me, worked in bars as bar staff, worked in restaurants as a waitress, worked at a conference centre as a receptionist but also got roped in to conference portering, KPing in the kitchen, silver service waiting, bar staff, chambermaid, receptionist at an old people's home, arts administrator, law centre volunteer, administrator for recruitment agency, typist for barrister, cleaner, lettings agent, secretary at law firm specialising in medical negligence, bilingual secretary at a chamber of commerce in France, PA at a commercial law firm, court reporter/legal editor, copy editor for television news, copy editor for radio news, journalist intern, stagiaire, journalist.

Those are the ones I can remember at the moment.

So, more than 30, and you do accurately remember the number?

I have never passed up the opportunity to earn money - except when doing so would be illegal.

This list includes the several jobs which I've held for only a day or two, and spans the last 10 years, which is how long I've been working for.

sandwich-maker/dishwasher
pizza delivery driver
environmental activist
landscaper/handyman
musician (guitar and bass)
children's furniture salesman
guitar tutor
big-box store "team-member"
elementary school teacher
substitute teacher

god, that felt surreal to type all that stuff next to each other.
It's hard to believe that I've actually done each of those jobs...
And the fact that I've had such a hard time with all of them... except musician, of course 8)

Kudos to anyone on the spectrum who tried waitressing. I don't think I could do it even in my dreams. If I am talking to someone and have a lidless drink in my hand, I spill it while talking. I do the same with plates of food. Hate to think of the damage I'd do with trays of plates and drinks. What a disaster!

Your post reminds me of a children's book called "Buzby", which is about a cat who gets a job as a bus boy. He is told to clear the plates, so he stands up on the table and starts licking the plates while the diners look on in horror. Then he has to fill a lady's glass of water, but he's so little (because he's a cat) that he has trouble with the pitcher, and ends up pouring ice-water down the front of her dress, falling over, slipping on the butter...you get the picture.

That would be me.

Actually, I just can't figure out how waitresses and waiters can remember so many people's orders AND carry all that stuff at once.

Ticket agent(volunteer)
Seasonal retail clerk
Temp data entry clerk
Bookkeeper/part-time cashier for Vons/Safeway-laid off because of overhiring, as many experienced employees returned to the store after it reopened. That included their bookkeepers as well. Sometimes, I wonder why the company paid to train us if they weren't going to use us at all, as it seems like a waste of money.

That happened at a large rehab company I used to work for. They had just hired three brand new PT graduates, and then a month later, we all got laid off. Just another example of the shoddy way that most large companies are run, with no regard to wasteful expenditure.

I've had 13 different jobs, not counting some volunteer work. The longest I've held one job is 9.5 years. There's 2 more jobs I was offered that got recended. Anyone else had jobs recended?

I haven't had any offers rescinded before, no. I've thought of another 10 or so jobs since I started the post though :)

Keep in mind I didn't find out I have AS until a year ago. Up until that point I've pretty much worked each job until I learned how to do it. The amount of time I spent at each one was directly tied to two things. How long it took to learn the job and, after that was done, how long I could tune out the petty, political jibber jabber between the workers.

I have actually kept 3 jobs longer than a year and those caused pretty bad times at home, due to the stress involved. The rest were between 3 weeks to 3 months in length.

As it happens, I'm actually in the market for a new job, and for the first time I'm aware that I have AS while I look for it. :) This should be interesting.

NTIDAS, Do you ever think you might not be able to get a job with pot smoke in your urine?
