I clear my throat constantly, but it's not a tic or anything, I just have a terrible phlegm problem...if I don't clear my throat before I try to speak, it'll come out as raspy gurgling :x

Some of you should try making a conscious effort relax the muscles in your throat and jaw. Or see a voice coach or speech and language therapy.

I clear my throat when speaking and when not speaking.

See a speech therapist? Will you pay for it?

I've had speech therapy growing up. I don't view clearing of the throat as something that bad and requires spending money to fix. I'd rather spend money on something else.

Ha I have been in speech since second grade! I would still be in if I was in public school. I was just wondering who does it.

Sometimes, esp. if I feel nervous. Or feel dried out, allergies bothering me, etc.

clearing your throat is very normal for those with OCD and Tourettes, its a way of stimming, or calming yourself during those most stressful moments, also if you have tourettes and are doing its hell lol. I had a throat clearing tic for a bit, also a coughing tic, shoot me now, my poor throat was prob saying wtf is going on up inside ur brain, STOP CLEARING me lol.

Yeah, my son has Tourette's as well and has a lot of tics. The worst ones for him were throat clearing and coughing.

He has some physical tics too. Thank goodness we got through the climbing one. That was the WORST!! He would climb up the OUTSIDE of the bannister on our staircase that goes up three flights and opens up from the top of the house to the bottom. 8O We nicknamed him Spiderman because he became quite talented at climbing the bookshelves at school in the library, and sitting on the very top. They're so high, you need a ladder.

Throat-clearing was the first tic I noticed and I had it for years. It was so annoying.
