As predicted, here comes the "MOD squad". I would hate for your ignorant statements to come back and haunt you. I am sorry that you find the First Amendment so useless and hilarious but I don't want to put words into your mouth. Please do post here publicly and tell me in front of all of America and the world, and state how the sacrifices of many great men to establish and preserve such things as the bill of rights to secure the freedoms and human rights of this nation and the world.

ok, if you don't want to reveal the mild message I sent to you about this being a privately owned website and as such is only responsible to what we allow on the forum. As you have promised to follow the rules of the site as a requirement for membership, I would think honor alone would curb your inclination to go back on your word.

Perhaps I am mistaken about your sense of honor?

As any ruling would have to apply to the entire Internet, I am sure your layer would like the fees from that case.

Under the American system you have to pay your own.

Opinion does grant rights, as Thomas Jefferson said,

"Freedom of the press applies to those who own one."

Please show us what was done wrong, we're not trying to take any freedoms away from you. If you do bring out a long law suit against this website it will be ruined, why would you want to take away something that has helped many people get through tough times?

Seriously?

A rule was broken, completely by accident, and action was taken in accordance with the rules of this board. I for one am happy that we are so well protected here.

And this is like a private club. They can limit your speech however you want.

Be upset, fine. But you're only embarrassing yourself now.

For the record I haven't mentioned you by name. You have willingly entered this and revealed yourself (and one other moderator who is nameless for the time being) as the offending party.

Telling me to cease reasonable discussion is threatening me, and threatening free speech. If you were not threatening me why did you send me a PM?

still won't post what I wrote to you, huh?

(shrug)

Merle

I told you very carefully Sinsboldly to choose your words carefully and consult the rest of WP so that your statements will not come back to haunt you. I will state for the record that you have requested that I post private messages between myself and you. You have requested this and you have requested that I single you out. You were the one who broke anonymity.

First of all SinsBoldly you haven't posted the PM either, because you and I both know it hardly makes you look innocent.

I'll post it.

I opened up my inbox to...

"MODERATOR WARNING" in all caps and obvious threatening manner.

"RE: Amanda Baggs

our members are not to post threads about other members, PERIOD

Merle"

Usually when someone makes a stern and strict statement ended with PERIOD in all caps its meant to be threatening. There was no dialogue, no chance of appeal, no discussion. PERIOD. You do what I SAY PERIOD. Sounds like Emperor Mao telling me to STFU this is a dictatorship. No I wasn't be threatened now was I? Obviously sarcasm in case you didn't catch on.

I have thought about what you've said and I can see your point. I would find a way where this could be decided by the supreme court without any financial factors getting in the way. Maybe the ACLU would provide help so that this would be purely the struggle of constitutional rights that it is. I believe so strongly in this. Its not about money, its not about even punishing anyone like WP. Its about freedom of speech and I'm fed up with being order around by sites who believe they can restrict reasonable freedom of speech.

Sinsboldly I do tell you that no I will not go to the back of the bus. I will not submit. Give me liberty or ban my ass. At least I stood for something I believe in.

I don't have any knowledge of the background to this, don't know what has been said previously, and so the following points I make are not made in reference or reply to any comments in particular, they are just general points of principle:

(1) It's rather silly to talk about suing for a sizeable sum of money. Yes, something like that might be a brilliant plan - if you're suing a mega-corporation with millions in the bank. If you're suing an individual or a small organisation, it might mean diddly squat if you pursue and win a legal case if the individual or organisation don't have the assets to pay a massive compensation award. You might be seeing $$$$$$$$$$ in front of your eyes, but you can't get what someone or something else hasn't got to give, and such damages don't come out of some central legal pot, you'd have to recover them from the other party, and if they can't pay, they can't pay (although it's possible there might be some insurance coverage, but that's not certain).

The litigation and compensation culture in the US has reached staggeringly silly levels, and such threats don't reflect well on the individual or company doing the threatening - remember the history of Autism Speaks threatening to sue a teenage autistic girl?

(2) The next thread I looked at was one relating to teenage bullying.

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt95550.html

Now, again, I want to make the specific point that this is not in response to any comments the OP made previously, I'm just stating a general point of principle:

It's all very well spouting off about freedom of speech, but with rights come responsibilities. One person's idea of censorship contrary to principles of freedom of speech could be another person's crackdown on hate speech or offensive comments or cyberbullying.

Again, I don't know what the contentious comments or posts said, but people should bear in mind that freedom of speech only goes so far, yes, in theory, you can say anything and everything you want, but at some point it's possible that your 'right' to freedom of speech might infringe on someone else's 'right' not to be subjected to hate speech or cyberbullying or whatever.

And I would also point out that it's one thing to have arguments about issues, about what people think causes autism, about whether people should get a formal diagnosis or not, or what particular therapies and interventions might or might not work, or it's possible to disagree about the merits of different charities or organisations or research studies or news coverage, but I think it's a bit more of a grey area about how personal you can get in terms of criticising an individual, there's constructive criticism, there are valid points, and then there's causing offense and nastiness.

It's possible that different people have different opinions as to what constitutes acceptable criticism and what constitutes an offensive personal attack.

(3) It's up to the moderators and board owners to decide where they want to draw the line really. Because although yes, there's the principle of free speech, people have to be registered members and there are terms and conditions of board useage, and you can't just say heck free speech I can say what I want, if that contravenes the posting guidelines.

you could always volunteer to quit the site, if you like. I hope you know I would work just as hard for you not to be talked about behind your back, as I am for our member I am working for now. WP is a safe haven away from a harsh world for us, and it is the mods intention to keep it that way.

I guess you didn't read my threads. If it was going to charity anyways I don't care. Heck take the money completely out of it. Have I ever said I was going to sue for money for myself? NO. That is not the point. I want the laws to change to reflect reasonable freedom of speech online. If its on topic, related to the boards purpose, and especially about a public figure you have the right to state your reasonable opinion. Did I ever say anything like "WTF SHES A LIAR AND FRAUD". No I examined videos and facts on the internet and asked people to explain their views. Hardly unreasonable discussion don't you think? I'm entitled to a reasonable amount of free speech. DON'T YOU THINK? Tell me a way to change the laws without suing. Maybe a ballot issue or some other way? Please do I'm serious. I believe strongly in his issue.

Sinsboldly,

Apparently you're adding things that you did not even say. I think there is a word for someone who makes stuff up that didn't happen. Whats the word? A liar.
