I'm happy with my hobbies but I'd not like the idea of having a special interest that totally interferes with my life.

This way, I can throughoutly enjoy sitting down to read, enjoy to read about certain series, but I'm just as happy to put away the book or turn off the computer when somebody calls me and I also have no problem to stop thinking about my hobby completely when I'm busy.

My special interests are my favorite part of having AS. I love the topics of all of them. However, I do not like the intensity of my currently most-intense special interest. It tends to take over my life in an unhealthy way.

Obsession session topic

I am currently involved in a very creative obsession and I have been so busy I have not been here all weekend. I am checking to see how everyone is doing with their obsessions. :D

My obsessions are awesome. Unfortunately I have nobody to talk to about politics and 20th century wars, cos nobody else seems to understand them.

Yes, I am quite content with my obsessions and am easily taken away with them.

Didn't have obsessions or didn't like your obsessions? I think my obsessions are both a good thing and a bad thing. It's great to have such a huge interest in something, but it's usually something innapropriate, such as hanging, and it's not good to talk all the time about something that disturbs people! Also, if they get really intense and mean you never do anything else, that is a bad thing. So you can have obsessions but not like them.
I do hope though that someday I can research a disease and be obsessed with that disease and it will just make it easier for me to do research for it. :)

I love my obsessions. I hate the moment when I realize that others aren't as interested.

Politics of obsessions topic

When I was your age I was obsessed with the events in a certain period in 20th century history that involved politics, and I still am.(No one else was interested, though, so I grew up not knowing if anyone else in the world was. Remember there was no internet then, in 1967!) In fact all the obsessions I have ever had all radiate out from the same uber interest, started when I was about 8 years old or so. Before that I was into prehistory, science, etc, with which I am still fascinated. :D

I trust there must be forums on other sites where young people gather. 8)

I've never had a problem with obsessions "taking over my life", or if they do, it's actually a good thing. I can't stop thinking about them (don't know why I'd want to) but thinking about these obsessions is a great coping mechanism when put in stressful situations-they even help me concentrate on school and homework, by relating it to the obsession (however loosely-at first thought my obsessions have nothing to do with school, but I can relate them to it in weird ways  ).

Also, if I didn't have obsessions, I wouldn't have any online friends. And if I didn't have any online friends, I wouldn't have any friends at all.

Yes I'm very happy with my obsession. My obsession is my rage and hatred for mankind. I'm stocking up and getting ready. I'm going to rock this mother f-ing world.
