Hi i just want to thank everyone who has offered support!
after being emotionaly beaten up by my doctor, i have posted this thread and read many others, and i swore to myself to try something,
i was going to go to a shop and not even try to conform, i would "let it all hang out"
Anyway i did and it was brilliant! although the shop was quite busy, i felt very calm, i can't even remember when i felt this relaxed in this situation!
When i left, i must have looked like some kind of grinning idiot, but i just did not care!
I used to think i had to have had a drink to avoid the pain but this time i was stone cold sober and it was 1,000 times better!
When i got home, i was so overwelmed that i had to go and cry, and yet these were tears of joy!
I know these are still early days but wow!
As i said i want to thank everyone at Wrong Planet for being so suportive and understanding!
even now hours later i am still emotional.
this is by far the best forum i have ever been to!
Thank you, Thankyou, Thankyou!

these doctors think they can diagnose a adult the same way they would diagnose a 2 year old

these doctors also think that what they beleived 50 years ago is never going to change and if you are not the stereotype then you are just wanting to have a condition for attention

you need to not let them give you any medicine until at least after they learn what is really wrong with you since it sounds like they are hoping that you will have side effects they can use to make you fit the diagnosis they want and will try to tell you medicines never have side effects

they also try to keep telling me i am depressed because i do not go to sports games or join any teams or go to rock concerts and do not bother asking me what i like and do not like oreven why i do not do some things and they like to just decide and tell me what i like and do not like

these doctors have no interest in what you really think if it does not support what they decided you are supposed to think

hi,
Sometimes i can be very compulsive, often doing things without properly thinking about them first.

And about the meds, i read about citalopram, and it says a common side effect is tremors!
is this a good idea for someone like me who has had hand tremors my whole life?
I don't think i want to take them now for fear of making myself worse!
I've already had enough of comments like "shame to waste it" or "slow down mate, you wouldn't shake so much"

It's advisable that if the doctor's going to prescribe medication, he takes the possible AS into account. He should have also discussed the medication with you properly, answering your questions. This is fundamental to informed consent.

I know what you mean about how letting it all hang out can decrease anxiety. Since learning of autism, I've stopped hiding so much and my social anxiety has decreased greatly.

My ex used to tell me to swing my arms and shoulders more!
I take escitalopram 10mg, which is the smallest dose. It's really helpful, because it helps me deal with anxiety, which for years I thought was of inexplicable origin. I think it helps me maintain positivity generally and side effects are negligible.
If you do go to a counsellor, they might be able to help, or at least point you more in the right direction for you. I would just consider the GP as a starting point and I'm sorry your doctor was not very good.
