That sounds almost like a headline ripped from The Onion...

LOL :)

I have read these same things about looks and autism. My thoughts on "beauty" are that it isn't so much that any one person is more "beautiful" per se so much as it is that they may have a high degree of "symetry" in their facial features. There are some studies out there that have suggested that facial symetry is a potential reason among many for why we find some people to be more "attraction". I wonder if this is what has been observed in autistic people? Me and my husband and children all have a lot of symetry to our facial feature..... of course I am WAY better looking than my husband is!! :lmao:

Oh yeah... I am a first born girl. My brother, who has a lot of traits, is a second born male. My oldest brother, who is the first born, also has some traits. However, he doesn't have as many as the other brother does.

I did some more online research on this concept. The idea of beauty and autism appears to be quite prevalent. It appears that many people believe it to be true anecdotally, though there is no scientific evidence to support the position. Then again, how do you quantify beauty? That's a tough one.

AnAutisticMind, I just remembered something. My mother said that strangers would stop her on the street and comment on how beautiful a baby I was. (No joke... really!) To some degree, people were being polite, but when they went out of their way to make a comment, there was probably something about the way I looked that struck them.

Oddly enough, I have received the same sorts of comments from strangers about my 10-month old son. Comments from friends also go this way, "You always HAVE to say that someone's baby is beautiful, but yours truly is!" At the same time, it's absurd for me to ponder whether he is on the spectrum based on his looks (especially at this point of his life).

Not entirely related, but some food for thought:

Who we find attractive could have implications for the prevalence of autism, say researchers

I'm just posting this to brag.

I'm the youngest, but also the best looking out of my siblings!

... Seriously though, I'm not one to judge my own appearance but I've had my fair share of compliments. Some people I know insist that if I was more sociable that I'd be able to land any woman I wanted. I disagree with that statement. Especially when, while I'm not overweight, I'm not in shape.

I am an only child. I don't think I'm that good-looking, but I have self-esteem issues, too.

I'm a first born male...I went to a support group for adults with Asperger's and it was split down the middle between average and below average looking people. Several of them were overweight-which I think is a result of the asperger lifestyle. I know if I didnt' have good metabolism, my years of video game playing would have made me huge. On the other hand, I've been told by many people I should be a model. I should probably say I'm not officially diagnosed though. Sorry if I just came off like a conceded, judgmental b*tch. I'm just trying to give my opinion on the subject.

I'm first born and female and everyone thinks I'm very pretty--I also look much younger than I am (22 and could pass for 15). My dad, who I suspect has Asperger's, is also first born.

I'm curious as to where this theory came from, too. I've heard the 'autistic people don't use their facial muscles as much and therefore look younger' theory and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with perceived attractiveness (if it's even true). Maybe it has something to do with the feeling you get from the AS person rather than their physical looks. From what people have told me, they are usually drawn to me because I'm 'hard to read' or 'mysterious' or some comment like that, not just 'oh she's pretty'.

I'm a first born female, and I'm pretty plain in the looks department, and I also look slightly older.
I haven't heard about us being really attractive though, maybe because alot of autistics look younger and so "cute" comes to mind.

My daughter is beautiful but I'm biased. I do think there's something to the "otherworldliness" theory though. And then there was the TV show "America's Next Top Model" which had an Aspie contestant. Yeah for her!

I'm first-born male. I guess (and think) I was good looking, but I've pretty much screwed it up over the years. Anyway, I don't care...
But I think that there might be something about that "first-born male"-thing. But of course it's not always that way.

I am first-born male(hopefully we don't have another passover :D )

I don't want to brag, but I consider myself to be somewhat good looking. I wasn't attractive at all as a kid, but I sort of grew into my face and body. People with AS seem to be kind of soft in a way and I think a few have low muscle-tone issues. Perhaps having that inner-child or soft, baby-face features keeps you young.
