This is a weird experience for me, ever since I figured out that no one is interested in my obsessions and being told "you keep going on and on about x" means I don't mention them at all to anyone for going on 6-8 years now.

For me I have two, that is airships and werewolves (folklore, myths and legends)

I'm very jealous of anyone who has an obsession that's actually useful in a career, because my obsession is sports (Yankees and Knicks). Still, Sports is the one thing that Neurortypicals can have Aspy like obsessions about lol, so it's a good obsession socially.
Well, career-useful obsessions are kind of a mixed-bag.
I was fascinated by the police (law enforcement can be a good career), but when you have parents naysaying your ability to get that job, it's can also be a curse. :?

I have that same obsession. Totally not the job for me, but I thought it would be because of my interest.

Doctor Who! My passion for it started a little over a week ago. I love the 4th and 10th Doctors! They're so cute! But there are other things about Doctor Who I enjoy too, such as the aliens and the different planets.

I'm quickly becoming a health nut. It started off with getting into shape and rapidly spiraled into controlling every last macronutrient that I consume. I can't stop working out, I can't stop obsessing with what I put into my body. But it brings me comfort, so meh 8)

My ''obsessions'' timeline:-

(No obsessions as a small child, just general interests but no serious obsessions)

Age 12-13 - Spanish, Spain
The Simpsons (still like it now but not obsessed)

Age 13-17 - My cousin's next door neighbours

Age 15-16 - Pubs

Age 17-present day - Bus-drivers, buses

Age 19-present day - The weather

I am much better at controlling my special interests now. When I was 14, I used to end up literally following the people I was obsessed with around, and hanging about outside their house, and it did get embarrassing. Now I have learnt to keep my obsessive behaviour to myself, instead of making myself obvious to them.

There is actually a difference between a special interest/obsession and just something you generally like or enjoy or want to do. I always thought an obsession or special interest was something you can't stop thinking about, and that you try to make sure nothing else is as important as this particular interest.

currently: soap making (as well as other bath & body products)...mmm, I love when an old interest is able to be resurrected and incorporated into a new interest: my old love of chemistry is back with a vengeance, and my many lists of the healing properties of herbs seem to fit here too! Hurray! I get to further some old interests!

Yugioh Card Game.

I still get made fun of for having what is considered a childs hobby but I have been playing since I was 14 and I still lovei t. Maybe I need a productive hobby. Wish I could find something productive that is as fun as Yugioh.
