Well as it's been said before, it's a spectrum and there are differing levels of functioning, ability or disability, skill sets. This 16 year old boy you mention may even be able in the future to somewhat grow out of his spitting and biting -- or he may not. A lot of people posting here have "come a long way" and used to be less functional than they are in life now. Temple Grandin herself used to be a lot less functional - if I recall correctly she was non-verbal as a child.

It is what it is, like I said I'm not sure if others realize how bad it gets for others who are barely functional, so much so they can't handle communicating on boards like this, so we are actually all the high functioning ones.

Lewie, almost for sure, has something else "wrong" with him in addition to Asperger's.

People with Asperger's don't normally spit at other people.

Frankie once spat in the teacher's face for getting in his personal space and wouldn't get out. My therapist and my mother told me that was not Asperger's. The kid also had a behavior disorder and his definition of personal space is different than the others. Most people would be thinking the teacher was standing right by him touching his body while he might have meant she was standing five feet away. Personal space issue is one of the hallmarks of autism.

Very few people with "classic" autism deliberately spit at people, actually.

Sounds like this guy has some sort of "oppositional" disorder.

How I know: I've encountered many people who seem quite Asperger's to me, even though they're not diagnosed. If anything, they are very fastidious sorts who might have a predilection towards obsessive hand-washing.

Frankie had ODD but I believe he had Conduct Disorder because he was aggressive towards other kids and his mother and teachers and he acted like a psychopath. They overlap. ODD does often lead to Conduct disorder if not treated or outgrown and 40% of kids with ODD (IIRC) meet the criteria for ASPD by the time they are adults. ADHD is often connected to all this and Frankie also had it. But not all kids with ADHD have behavior disorders.

So you are absolutely positive nobody with Autism ever before spit or tried to bite anyone?

He never said "nobody with autism every spat nor bit anyone". He is saying that that behavior is not typical of aspies. Some NTs spit and even bite people.

I am an aspie, and I go to the support group meetings and see other autie/aspies. Never seen any of them spit at all (much less on anyone). Nor have I seen anyone bite anyone.

Yea, that's because people like Lewie aren't functional enough to go out to group meetings. By the way, I talk to his mother.

I think that you're missing the point.

The point is that I am an aspie (and I dont spit on folks nor bite them) and I have seen a lot of aspies, and I have never seen any do that. So I have seen a big sample, so I am qualified to say that it is not a typical aspie behavior.

Though it does sound like that your friend probably IS a little too challenged to go out in public. But that is probably because he has a lot of other issues in addition to being an aspie.

I think you're missing the point, I talk to his mom, he just has Asperger's. Smarten up.

It's hilarious that whenever anyone mentions bad behavior and Asperger's, you all say it must not be just Asperger's because people with Asperger's could never exhibit any sort of abusive or anti social behavior. Denial is crazy huh?

Are you just trolling this forum? It's beginning to seem that way.

Nope, sorry if I have diffrent opinions than you on how to actually handle the daily struggles with Autism, and if you aren't in intense therapy getting advice from trained professionals then maybe you aren't actually as healthy and well adjusted as you think, maybe you are just lying to yourself about who you actually are as a person.

Definitely a troll.
