What a nice day... A coworker outright gave me his Kel-Tec P-32!

I now have 14 guns. Oh no! The horror!

The right to have guns depend on the country where you live. In the Netherlands it is not allowed to have a gun. There is such thing as the Police Law, in which is stated that only police men are allowed to have a weapon. In most of the case it is a pistol. Revolvers are not used by the Dutch police.

My opinion (and that is the law situation in the Netherlands) is, that nobody has the right to have a gun. I don't make a difference between NTs and autistics. The denial of the right to have again applies to both groups. Police men and soldiers only have the right.

To be honest, I have a big sword at home. It is a replica from a computer game. I paid a lot of money for that 2-handed sword. The police told me that I may have the sword but I am not allowed to take it outside. The sword has a decoration purpose and is a rememorial of a visit in Paris, so it is hanging in the sleeping room. I will not ever use the sword agianst anyone, and I don't want it to be damaged.

Nobody, besides cops and such, should be able to own a gun. And cops should only have them while on duty.

However, since people CAN have guns, aspies should to.

Considering that Autistics are regular targets of physical and sexual abuse, I think we should make it a habit to carry guns. I think ASAN should expand its platform to arming Autistics in countries in which Autistics are an oppressed minority.

Must . . . resist . . . urge . . . to begin debate on 2nd amendment.

OK, we would probably be on opposite sides in a discussion on the 2nd amendment, but we do agree on the question presented here. Asperger's should not be a reason to restrict a person's ownership of guns.

I despise this thread. Why wouldn't people with Asperger's be able to handle guns like the neurotypical? Sure, some suffer from clumsyness, but in that case, don't get a gun. Same applies to every clumsy person, I suppose.

I might shoot you for creating this thread.

I'm no less competent than any other human; the safety rules are very mechanical, procedural and ultimately easy to follow. Over here, the police actually have many, many more "accidents" involving poor handling than private citizens (there's far more privately owned weapons than government issued ones). From some things I've seen at ranges, I'm kinda weary around police officers.

I have 5.

4 hunting (rifles of various calibers), and 1 defense (12 gauge shotgun).

I used to own a few pistols, but over here in Oz you have to be a member of a range to own them (pistols that is), and I couldn't afford the silly yearly membership fee.

I want to get my gun license but I'm hesitant because I have Asperger's. I don't think they'd give it to me, especially after Virginia Tech like you said. My friends tell me that's nonsense and they know I'd be a responsible gun owner but... Eh.

Are you sure you need one? Your locale certainly may be one of them, but there are (relatively) few places in the US where a permit is required to buy or own a gun. If you're talking about carrying in public, that's a different story.

Perhaps I don't need one.

As long is no one is sitting on your shoulder telling you to shoot people, then I think it is OK for an aspie to be armed. Hey, and what about the "bush" in Australia, don't you need a gun in a place like that? Although, everything I know about Australia I learned for watching Crocodile Dundee, so I could be wrong.

As a person living in the "bush", yeah, you often do need one around for practical reasons. Putting down injured animals (it's more humane), and fending off wild dogs and such are common occurrences (the dogs prey on farm animals).

However, most people in Oz don't live in the "bush" (the suburbs and cities are the same as anywhere else in the world). Recreation is still a valid reason as any, though, and ranges are all over the place (it's just that many people don't realize it). Our esteemed former leader and his friends said defense wasn't though, but luckily, you can still use your recreational arm for such, so there's a moot point.

Dan, thanks for the prospect. I have to get on down to Australia. It sound like a very interesting place. Last time I was on the shooting range I used a Colt .45 and a SW 9mm.

Better not let me have one on a snowy day - I might lash out at whoever giggles at me when I slip (more so a teenager). But I doubt I will want to shoot them - I would start feeling sorry for them and all their family. Maybe I will just take some rocks out with me next time, so if I slipped on ice again I will use the rocks to hurl at whoever sniggers and giggles and looks at me.

Guns scare the crap out of me, so I wouldn't even want to hold one, let alone own one.
