it is illogical to hate something that you have no control over... like race, gender or nationality. If you must hate something about yourself, then hate something that YOU did, that you CAN control. Like lying to a friend, stealing from people, etc... at least you can fix those things and then you can like yourself again for being true to yourself/others.

Indian meaning India? or Indian, Native American? Need to be politically correct.[/

quote]

Thats a dumb comment!

Yes- if you declare yourself to be an "Indian" you DO need to specify which kind: "American" Indian, or "Asian" Indian- in the interest of geographic correctness so folks know what the heck you're talking about.

But being "politically correct" has nothing to do with it.

To be "politically correct" is to be sensitive ( or maybe too sensitive) to the feelings of minorities.

Native Americans dont care if you call them "Indians".

The issue is that the term is confusing for us non-indians because the same label is used for two unrelated groups of people from different continents. We have Columbus to thank for that five hundred year old piece of confusion.

What's there to not like about hot-tempered Irish, bull-headed Germans, stuffy pampas British, or smelly French? I'm a mixture of the above (50%/25%/12.5%12.5% respectively). I find good and also fault with each, but neither love nor hate any.

I have grown to intensely despise my own cultural background (Russian), and I refuse to be identified with it. I am happy that my Russian accent is almost gone.

Does the absence of like equal hate? If so, then yes. I'm black and nothing clicks for me culturally: food, music, humor, language, deportment, pastimes, fashion, religion, none of it (except politics, where I side with the non-Republican majority), and what's more I'm judged negatively for not liking these things I'm expected to like but don't like by people who know nothing of what I do like. I try not to hate but I'm sufficiently trained to expect the worst. Even so, after moving to a new city, things are slowly improving within and without.

I don't hate my own race, (I am black) but I do hate the mindset that typically precedes the way other black people sometimes treat me. The way that you behaves, what food or music you like, or the way you speak does not determine your race. Your skin color, physical features and lineage determines your race. Claiming that you can only be a member of a race if you fit seamlessly into the culture is stupid and weakens the race itself.

I'm white, living in a city where whites are the minority (around 5% in my neighborhood) - which is an interesting experience. Still, mostly I feel that it's autism that separates me from other people, rather than my skin color.

I don't hate any race, but there's definitely a sense of shame that comes with being white, overprivileged, and descended from people who conquered and oppressed so many other cultures. 'White pride' is not an option; I guess my own attitude is just "sorry for being white, please don't hate me". :?

It's makes about as much sense to hate your own race as it does any other one, meaning not much. I did not choose the circumstances of my birth, I don't feel any guilt for something I didn't do or have any hand in. My family were good god fearing people who answered when called upon by their country in almost every major American war, why would I feel guilty? Tyrannical monarchy, slavery, Nazism, Communism, my family fought and bled on the battlefield to end those things but I am supposed to feel guilty? If your dad was Adolf Eichmann, maybe then you should personally feel guilty but I don't have anything to do with it. There are a good and bad people of every race, that's why racism never made much sense to me since I personally have known way more white people I've disliked than anyone else. I was a minority where I grew up, I was the only white kid in my 1st and 2nd grade classes, I've seen both sides of the coin.

I couldn't care less what people think of white people. People of all races and ethnicities have been conquering and enslaving each other since the beginning of time. People are naturally racist. Babies are racist. White people are just the latest ones so they get the focus.

Everyone is always going to find a way to dislike those that are different, no matter how small the difference may be. And people seem to like to conquer and kill each other and assert dominance.

The Inuit, for instance, have only been in Alaska/Canada for about 1000 years. Guess what happened to the native Americans that had lived there for thousands of years before they came? They wiped them all out. They didn't even interbreed with them (they did genetic testing). They just killed them all. Why? Because that's what people do. They were like the Asian version of the Vikings.
