I've just posted my first ever musical piece on Youtube (the link is in the Musicians/Artists etc thread) - there should be several more going up soon of both of my current bands and my solo flamenco fumblings.

I couldn't get it on Firefox for a whole day; had to log out and look at it on Internet Explorer, but it's working on both now. Originally I had to manually tap in the address on a google youtube search to watch it.

ouinon: thanks for posting the picture of Avignon. It´s beautiful! I´m really excited now.

Another question: do you know French well? (I guess you said you were English?) I´m hoping someone can help me navigate the food stuff, that I don´t eat anything with gluten or dairy. Normally I have to ask a lot of questions in restaurants...ugh. It makes it really scary to travel anymore. I also suspect that I may even have a new allergy (lucky me). I think I may also be allergic to soy. At least, I seem to have a lot of problems when I eat it recently. One more thing to worry about...

I am used to doing this, about gluten and casein anyway, both for myself and my AS/PDD coeliac son, ( almost 10 years old, whoo is not coming with me! ), so I can probably help you with that. I have been living in France now for nearly 11 years so the language is not much of a problem for me anymore. :D

That's alright. 8)

By the way, are you actually german or do you just live in Germany? My mother is german, ( from Hamburg originally too :) ; most of my german family live in the north of Germany ), and I understand it quite well, though since living in France I find it almost impossible to speak it any more.

I found another couple of pictures of Avignon, to whet our appetite! :D

No, I´m American...I just happen to live in Germany. My German is okay, I get by, but it´s rather pedantic. I have a big problem with figures of speech- (unless they´re like the English ones), or with slang. So in some situations my German is great, in others it´s terrible. I used to speak French in school, but since I learned German, it seems to have knocked the French out of my head. I can understand a bit, but I have a hard time remembering the words to be able to speak in any fashion. :(

We're both exiles/ex-pats then, like RaggleTaggleGypsy is at the moment too. 8)

How long have you been in Germany? I've read threads on WP in which people talked about how living abroad actually seems to "suit" their ASness because of feeling like an outsider. Do you find that?

Yes, definitely! I would never go back to America now, and I feel much more comfortable here. I´ve only been in Germany for 3 years, but I was in Vienna, Austria before that...for quite a awhile, actually. So when I visit the States nowadays, I really feel like a foreigner.

How about you? Do you like being in another country? Are you married, by the way?

Not married. And yes, I like living in France, mainly because of the glorious sunshine! :D

Solo. Not guitar though - Chapman Stick.

Coincidentally(?) , I play in a Latin-ish band a the moment! We mix in a bit of funk/flamenco, too.
It may be more than a coincidence. My fascination with complex rhythms is inherent in my autism. It must also be inherent in some other people's autism.

There's a possibility that I might be moving back to Manchester/the UK from Doha, Qatar within the next couple of months, and if so, then I'll probably be able to make this meeting as it would probably work out too expensive for me to make a trip for a weekend from Qatar (especially since I'm going for a weekend to Germany at the end of April).

If I do, I'll probably fly to/from Montpellier, as I lived there for three months a few years ago, so I could catch up with some friends, and one of my old classmates from London who got a job there with my old company, and also hang out on the beach at Palavas! :)

For the people who are flying into and out of Nimes, I really recommend that you try to find out if any concerts are happening. There's an old Roman arena in Nimes, and they often hold concerts there. I visited the arena on a non-concert day, but I imagine that attending any concert there would be an amazing experience.

I have a TOTAL fascination for complex rhythms!! !

I thought I´d mention here that I really love music; I´m sure that´s a big reason why I dance and choreograph. Unfortunately, I don´t really know the particulars about it (or the technical aspects), so I probably won´t be able to contribute much in a conversation about music. However, I do really appreciate it! :D
