Well, I'm still pursuing a clinical diagnosis so I can't really say one way or the other. I have some AS traits for sure and they cause me significant problems on a daily basis, but you couldn't tell I was different by looking at me. Realistically, I may not be able to get a diagnosis because of that. I'm not some grumpy teenager and the problems that I have have been there since childhood and have nothing to do with my upbringing.

i have had issues all my life, in and out of hospitals since i was a few years old, they have yet to find a reason for my "strange" behavior.

over the years i just gave up on them ever finding a solution to my problem, but lately i have had to as now i am getting older it seems i am getting worse and hence i have been trying to get a psyk appointment these last weeks so that i might clarify things once and for all, i do suspect AS or Autism, but i am not 100% yet...

so hopefully i will know within a few weeks time.. but i think i need a Psychiatrist and not a psychologist to give me a official diagnose and to get an appointment with one in Norway takes a while, a few months if i am not mistaken...so lets wait and see..

i think the worst for me is not knowing what it is, my obsession these last few months has so become finding out what is "wrong"....

Probably the main reason is because allmost every people uses the word "autism" with the meaning of "low-functioning autism" (even if they, intelectually, know that there are other kinds of autism, at an unconscious level they continue to associate autism=LFA)

Probably other reason is because the frontier between "autism" and "non-autism" is in much way arbitrary, than is easy to think "you are not autistic; it is your psychiatrist that have a very wide criteria do define what is autism".

And, specially in the case of AS, should be noted that the "NT" are not the only people with this attitude - if you take a walk at places like Schizoids.net, INTJForum, etc., it is not much difficult to find people diagnosed with AS denying the validity of their diagnosys or even of the whole concept of Asperger Sydrome.

And I confess that the theory that "Asperger Sydrome is nothing more than a social construction with the purpose of stigmatize people with a different personality" does not seems totally unsound: I think the diagnosys criteria of AS does not make a clear differentiation between what are "objective impairments" and what are "subjective tastes". Both a person who "has difficulties with interpersonal relations and has need of routines" and a person who "dislikes interpersonal relations and likes routines" are "eligible" for a diagnosis of AS, even if in the second case are only a question of personality type.

Take a look at who has posted so far. See a lot of faces that haven't been to visible in long time don't you? I never asked anyone to 'prove' that they are on the spectrum. I just made the observation that a lot of posters don't have any symptoms and this thread kind of proves it since some 'regular' posters have chosen to stay away for some reason.
I just wanted to sitr it up a little and find out where people were coming from. You have to admit that this was a very active thread, time wise, compared to many here so maybe somebody needed to come out and ask the question that to me seemed obvious.

ok I wasn't going to respond but now you got me

I only have one thing to say- I come across such elitist approach a lot on this board. it's one of the things that makes me want to leave this community.

I came here to look for answers, being a person who can't afford a formal diagnosis for ASDs, found what I was looking for and decided not to get diagnosed (I am diagnosed with ADHD and this forum is:
Quote:
Wrong Planet is the web community designed for individuals (and parents of those) with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD, PDDs, and other neurological differences.

Yeah, so did I. (I'm autistic. But I don't think that failure to reply on this thread means anything at all.)

I love the fact that the OP seems to believe he/she has the ability to diagnose AS/ASDs over the internet via webposts and how he/she can apparently tell who has AS symptoms or not, enough so to discern whether the majority of people do or do not genuinely have the syndrome.

And by 'love', I mean 'find laughable'.

Aspergers isn't known as a 'hidden disability' for no reason, you know :?

In another post he said that he thinks that 80 percent of the people here aren't autistic -- just a collection of the weird and strange, apparently.

I'm currently trying to get an official assessment. No, technically, I don't know whether I have Aspergers/PDD-NOS or not. My self-diagnosis could be wrong, and if a diagnostician who has made a proper assessment tells me so, I'm prepared to accept it. All I know is that the amount of issues raised on this board that I can fully or partially relate to is astonishing, and that even if I'm diagnosed as 'not AS', I would still very much like to continue visiting here, as my brain clearly works in much the same way as those of people with AS.

Discovering AS and "what is wrong" has been a special interest of mine for exactly 2.5 years now.

Why do you care? topic

Why are members here concerned about what this person is writing? Who appointed him an expert?

Could be Michael Savage. People on the internet are not as they seem. :P
