I HATE those tests. If it were any longer I would have quit. I don't know why, but by about half way through them, I just start getting really PISSED. :wall:

I think most of those expressions are just made up to make us look stupid. :rabbit: Who else ever takes those tests anyway? :P

46%. That woman with the glasses was a LOT harder to read than any of the others, and her photo was blurry.

Interestingly with fear, I didn't identify it as such, but as what I personally think are its two component emotions: surprise or sadness.

Joy and sadness were the two easiest for me to distinguish.

In reality I find people easier to read, with many cues at my disposal. But I'm not surprised I would have problems with something face-related, as I am borderline on the prosopgnosia (sp?) scale.

I also got 50%....most people just look angry to me unless they are smiling or crying, not only in these pics but in everyday life. I did get most of the "surprised" ones though, on the test. It was kind of easy with their eyes all bugged out  !

46%, which is better than chance, but if truth be told, I wouldn't have gotten that high a score if the question weren't multiple choice. For quite a lot, I would've answered "emotionless" if that had been a choice. Some looked like amusement. At least one looked either constipated or puzzled.

Interesting - I've never seen 'contempt' defined as an emotion. I would think it's more a learnt attitude. I'm normally okay at such test - I read books on drawing cartoons as a kid, and they showed which direction the eyes, mouth and eyebrows go for various expressions - but the contempt one totally confused me! And some of them just looked bored - or constipated!

I got 64%. I generally got joy, sadness and surprise right - they have very distinct face shapes. I misinterpreted anger a lot - I do that in real life too. Never realise when people are angry with me! Actually, gosh, I didn't get any of the 'anger' ones. I seem to be unable to recognise it at all. Real anger never looks like the cartoon depiction, with the eyebrows at a certain angle! I misinterpreted fear a lot too. Fear and surprise often look quite similar to me.

I'm curious to know which ones other people tend to get right and which ones you get wrong.

that was quite easy, the expressions were really exagerated

Towards the end I thought they got a lot harder. They had the same person back to back making (from what I could tell) almost the same facial expression. I kept wondering if they were the same expression, and they were trying to trick me into giving two different answers.

Agreed.

Excessive joy and sadness were the easiest to recognize.

I scored 43%, it sures explains a lot... I use to think I was good at seeing emotions because I could tell from obvious facial expressions but I really am not when I have no context.

Joy: you correcly identified 3 of 4
Fear: you correcly identified 0 of 4
Disgust: you correcly identified 2 of 4
Surprise: you correcly identified 2 of 4
Anger: you correcly identified 2 of 4
Sadness: you correcly identified 2 of 4
Contempt: you correcly identified 0 of 4

I confuse almost everything with "surprise". Ironically, I confused surprise with happiness

Some of them seemed pretty neutral to me.

I got a 54% as well. I feel like I can read faces okay if the expressions are obvious like joy, fear and anger. But the sadness and contempt ones were confusing...

I scored 50%. A lot of the pictures looked the same to me.
