'cause he wants to make money?
Lol maybe just maybe he might be trying to make a difference.

Why do you think he started this forum :x

Do you think if he were concerned about making money off this site he would allow for such negativity?

Again this is typical of the negative responses that you find on this site to the most direct of issue.

Alex has given something to the community and all you can do, is attack him for trying.

This shows the problem isn't as direct as simply sharing feelings it's a cultural issue that is becoming ingrained on this site.

I think that' s a good point, but in doing so he' s positioning himself outside the rough and tumble. If you are presenting yourself as a guide or a figurehead, then a certain reserve has to be maintained to uphold that authority. Every poster shouldn't be held to those standards and it would be unrealistic to expect them to.

So, you're saying that I actually made something typical in an online social group?

I'd never!

I'm being super positive here. I rarely post something that's typical of the forum in question; good times, man, good times.

Agreed.

Again I don't think people should be afraid to say things, I've made many a post that are quite negative. Including ones about a close friends suicide.

I simply think they belong in the haven, or in other sub forms,

When the main channel for discussion is tilted in such an opposed direction to alex's intentions it really shows a problem.

This site is suppose to be a beacon for us.

I missed the point where the dancing bears were brought in. Are you obliging? :P

Back on point, I am starting to see the OP' s concern more clearly now. I don' t think that beacon is something that you can find externally. Unfortunately, you have to filter out the noise to find what speaks to you.

I think if you were really 82 years old, you'd know the answer to that.

If you just found out you were on the spectrum, would you really want to go to a site that looks like the modern "General Autism Discussion"? If you're someone who's been employed and living independently for years, you suspected, and now you go to WP for information, and you saw this site, there's a good chance you'd turn right around. As things stand now, if I found WP today, I probably would go away.

OP and others have indicated they know people who looked at WP and declined to join because of the negativity. I personally can confirm the same. There are polls out there on "General" where people would happily answer the poll with "other/please explain", and not post. I suspect some "readers"(as opposed to posters) feel they will be shut down if they post positive things, but I can't confirm that since people arn't posting. Social anxiety, which I think is very high on this board, cuts multiple ways. People don't want to meet online, people don't want to post, people don't want to discuss if they think they'll be shut down.

My concerns here are for Aspies who are uncomfortable acknowleding themselves, and how to encourage all of us to reach out and communicate, both online and offline. I don't think anyone is asking for a "false positive" to be shown to the world, but I think we can all think a little bit before we hit "submit", or PM a moderator to move a thread if we think that it might be better in another sub-forum. We've had two mods post in this thread, and I don't think that we would be adding too much to the moderator workload to move an occasional thread to another sub-forum.

So basically, let me summarise your complaint. This whole thread has been devoted to you being unhappy with negative posts being on the wrong sub-forum.

If that's all that's bothering you, why don't you PM moderators every time you see a thread that has been posted in general that should be in haven.

Note that these are rhetorical questions.

If you really believe that Aspies are illogical enough not to both look in the correct sub-forums for what they seek and not calculate for themselves that posts are a bit randomly placed at times, you are doing them a disservice.
