Maybe the word "BAN" is what has you and a few others' panties in a wad. What if we said, "restrict"?

As far as your Support Our Troops story - loved it!! ! I see it everyday! That and jesus fish. But then you went all medieval on us.

There was more than one about pets, and some specifically said what type of pet, well, there were a lot of dog related ones. Even if you restrict, that's just the same thing almost. I didn't mean to get medieval on y'all, but I'm sick of people telling me how to live my life. If this country ever goes down that road anymore than they already have, then I'm moving out until the next Revolutionary War.

Smoking outside home
Selling tobacco at the front of the stores (it's much safer to put them at the back)

It pisses me off to no end that most beaches are "no dogs allowed" beaches. That IS wrong!! ! Dogs rule.

Those mobile phones which play music out loud would be first to go. Then PE/Sport, but only the enforced kind (apparently some people like to be tortured...), all those evil biting dogs and loud music from ANYWHERE. GRRR angry now...

Do not get me started I have a long list of things to ban.

1. The irksome music which greets you when you step onto a ryan air flight, I would ban that very quickly.
2. The electronic version of some classics which is used as the "put on hold music"
3. Chavs
4. Half baked autism researchers
5. Verbosity in instruction books
6. Car user guides which tell you constantly "it is important to have your car serviced correctly" rather than the correct wheel size and oil type
7. The majority of the fake heavy metal rock bands designed to appeal to teenagers
8. Needless and pointless profanity
9. Jobsworth and wasteful public servants
10. Monday morinings
11. The people who stick chewing gum stuck on pavements and other surfaces (they need 20 years in jail)

Woodpecker has some more in mind but if he lists them all then we will be here all day.

I would ban only the things:
Hurting another person
Killing another person
Stealing another person

Anything else would give too much power to the state.

No one's trying to tell you how to live your life. This is all hypothetical. I'm a huge dog lover, but I'm not annoyed by all the dog-related bans here because for one, they're not real, and for two, they're not to be taken seriously.

Anyway, back on topic, here are some more things I'd like to ban (hypothetically, of course  )

Interrupting people while they're reading a book just to make small talk
Elitism
Really bright lights in classrooms
Putting gum on desks/chairs
Stupid rumors
Enforcing others to eat only at certain times of the day

Uh...Tantybi, I think you're taking this thread a little too seriously. I thought it was pretty obvious that this was for things people figuratively want to see banned instead of literally (like you mentioned in part of your post) with the exception of maybe a few. *shrug* Obviously, these things aren't going to be banned, so I don't see what all the fuss is about anyway.

I don't think it's obvious when people are already trying to or already have started a ban on things like that. Give it another decade of granola heads in charge before smoking is completely illegal.

I think the original question was awesome, thought provoking, and interesting, if taken literally. Turning it into a bitchfest of annoyances kinda destroyed the question.

Now if the original question was something more about "things that drive you crazy" or "things that annoy you" or something like this yahoo article/blog I read about bad etiquette to include no rsvp, changing poopy diapers in public, people who talk about their life without asking you how yours is going, talking on cell phones in public, etc. Then, I'd be all about adding my input like call waiting.

But no, I don't take my rights lightly, even if all y'all do.

I'm a cat person, but I don't hate dogs. I'll probably get a dog someday. Thinking when the kids are in their teens, I'd like to have a retired police dog trained to sniff out illegal drugs. That way, my kids nor their friends or dates will be bringing anything like that into my house.

Either way, if I did have a dog, I'd want to take him/her to the beach with me if I lived near one. My friend has a dog that likes to go places, and she's so restricted about where she can go. I understand if the dog is aggressive and bites a lot to be weird about having them in public places, but most dogs are not like that.

Well you may not take the dog ones too seriously, but I get real offended about the anti kids ones. Why? Well, first, it's funny how Aspie adults can't stand loud noisy kids who cry a lot. Um, I never really knew an Aspie kid who was perfectly behaved. Seriously, it's the pot calling the kettle black there.

Either way, I've been arguing with someone in the women's forum about abortions, and I've been going on a long rant about how I hate that people who pretend to advocate women's rights are more concerned about a woman's right to abort her child than raise them. I know we are allowed to have kids, but moms get no support. Everything is out there to work against moms. No wonder women are afraid to become one. It's the anti-mom/anti-child sentiments like I see on here that plays into that. Taking care of your kids is not an easy task, but then add concepts like firing a woman for being pregnant, not granting her maternity leave, constantly griping about how she should be raising her kids or about how her kids behave, offering day care at outrageous prices that a minimum wage full time job couldn't cover, expecting perfection from a one man show (i.e. Donna Reed clean home, and yes, most people expect that including Child Protection Services), and I could go on but this is getting long. Anyway, those concepts make it seem impossible to bring children into this world anymore. So yeah, I get really offended when people take my job as a mom so light hearted to say, well let's just ban kids then. You don't think I'm annoyed when I hear a crying baby in public? I go crazy because I keep thinking it's one of my kids and then get antsy because I feel like I should be stopping what I'm doing to go handle that, but it's not one of my kids crying, it's someone else's, and i almost fall into an anxiety attack every time. But I wouldn't go so far to say, well we need to ban that.

I wouldn't ban things such as fascism, the far right, meat-eating etc, rather let them sort themselves out by keeping an open debate. Obviously anyone with half a brain knows the result on that with fascism, but exposing the extreme fallacies to me would be fine

I would ban polo shirts and fleeces, though. And be very heavy on littering and such as Singapore is, and how Germany is a wonderfully tidy nation too, when they instruct each household to keep their kerb clean. And at the very least I'd ban people from making a living on manipulating money, etc.

I'd start by banning pot any all other illegal recerational drugs. Alchohol too.

I'd ban college sports. People should go to college to learn and get a degree. Not get a free ride to the NBA or NFL. I'd set up a system like they have in every other country for athletes that age. When you finish high school, you either become an athlete and go to a minor leauge club. Or you go to school for a degree.

My uncle used to teach at Harvard. They told him he would be fired if he did not give all the students that were on the football or basketball team at least c's. Even though they never showed up for class. He resigned instead of living with a lie.

Pretty arbitrary, but can understand the issue with sports - however, keep in mind that there are those for whom the mental arena is as challenging as the physical is to others, and all strengths deserve training and support.

Yes, it is hard to understand until you find your child building a sandcastle out of dog doodie
