Because it's not an achievement. I'm not proud of having green eyes either.

Hell freakin' no. All the trials and tribulations in my life is because of AS. Man, if I can trade in my Aspie traits for NT ones, I'd gladly do it.

That's how I feel about it. It confuses me when people say they are proud of things they have no control over.

Aspergers is the reason behind all of my failures, all of those things that I tried to hide from the world and pretend that I was "normal," and also the reason that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't put on a convincing act. I'm not happy to have it. However, I am happy to know about it, so I can at least make my life more comfortable for me and stop stressing about being normal when I can't, no matter how hard I try. I don't love or hate it. It's just who I am.

Can't speak for how it is in the UK, but in the US one pretty much needs to be a meteorologist to do the weather on tv. It's not a requirement by the government, or anything, but it's still the way it is. And, even if you find someone who will hire you without that degree, you still have to present well on tv - no noticeable speech oddities, confident appearing, well-dressed/groomed, (reasonably) good looking . . . Considering how many people on here say they have problems presenting the "correct" facial expressions and tone of voice in everyday situations, and/or have never seen reason to care about fashion, and/or lack confidence even with people they know well, you'd be suggesting that she leaps some rather high hurdles. YMMV.

You're the one saying you feel fortunate for having it though. Surely it's up to you to provide a reason. I don't see how being disabled makes someone fortunate.

If you're not disabled then you don't have AS. AS is a disability.

Some people including myself consider Asperger's as a difference---not a disability.

All people (autistic or NT) have strengths and weaknesses. But we don't call everyone disabled. We just have certain things we do well, and certain things we don't do so well.

It takes both we autistics and NTs to make the world function properly. We are different from one another.

If there was 1 NT person for every 100 or so autistic people in the world today, then we would label NTs as disabled, and autistics as normal.

In my opinion---we with Asperger's are different.
