being that I come from Japanese ancestry, I dislike it when people say "kareeohkee" instead of "kah-dah-ohkeh."

How about when people talk about sushi as being raw fish?

I like the cold wind too for similar reasons.

in these days of monophonic Bluetooth speakers, I have a pronounced distaste for monophonic sound. I much prefer stereo sound or surround.

Me too. I prefer sound from both directions.

Remember quadrophonic? That made me dizzy a couple of times. Someone had a system and a bit of the few things made for actual quad split sound. Not pleasant at all when they decided to whip the sound in a circle around you.
And I'm old enough to remember the transition from Mono to Stereo and each album was labeled. I had one album that even had a warning that the guitars on the songs were meant to sound that way and that nothing was wrong with your stereo.

I can't really tell the difference between stereo and mono---unless it's bought to my attention, and I "sensitize" my hearing more.

I can't really tell the difference between Hi-Definition and regular TV, either. Unless it's bought to my attention, and I sensitize my vision more.

The first time I could see the difference was when HD first came out and they did a swipe from regular definition to HD. It was staggering. You could see all the imperfections of the skin in HD. Kinda prefer the regular focus/soft focus looks cinematographers would achieve.

But, unless something really noticeable like makeup lines or something, it looks pretty much the same.

Edit: Ha!! My captcha was 1803...date of the Louisiana Purchase. :D

I am guessing that for you, noticing stereo sound is akin to seeing the picture in those hidden picture things, once you find it you go "AHA!" :dj:

my first exposure to surround sound was seeing "fantasia" in the theatre in 1977. would really love to hear the alan parson's quad mix of "dark side of the moon." anyways, a fairly substantial hobby of mine is to take monophonic recordings and use various spectral editing/DCS techniques to produce a plausible stereo remix with actual instrumental placement on a stereo soundstage. youtube it, you will hear amazing things! :dj:

I highly recommend you watch "fantasia" and hear "dark side of the moon" which are both vividly stereophonic and good demos for the phenomenon.
