Optimism and Reality: Goldfish21 Response to me
Same thing you'd do anywhere.. find out who's hiring, apply for jobs. The process varies depending on the industry where you live. If it's all very small contractors, you apply to them. If it's run by big unions, you go inquire about becoming a member and starting out as a labourer/apprentice. Or you go start your own contracting business if you have the skills and resources. Or maybe you put an ad on craigslist and await job offers. Or maybe everyone in your town gets their start in construction by hanging around the Hope Depot parking lot at 7am and getting selected by some contractor for a day's work. It totally depends on how things are done where you live, whether you want to work residential, commercial, renovation, restoration, custom homes etc. There are many different types of construction and even more trades, big companies, small ones, out of town camp work, downtown office building.. once you know what part of the industry you want to work in then you can better determine how to get started in it. But in general it's like any other job: apply for it, get hired, go to work.
Pretend I'm an alien and I have no idea what you're talking about. Can you be more specific please?
If you want to apply for work, you need to look in the newspaper and they have job listings in the ads section. Also Sunday papers are the best. I would be careful with craigslist because of scams. You mostly apply online now and you sometimes find Hiring signs in public and it will have a wed address listed for applying. Stores and restaurants now want you to apply online now. Then you fill out an online form and put in your previous work experience and where you last worked and submit it and if you don't hear a call back, move on. Even after you submit an application, still look for other places to apply at and don't just sit back and wait. It's not easy finding employment.
If you want to try construction, google "How to start working in construction without experience" and you might find lot of articles about it. You can pretty much find anything online now and get your answers. I am sure there is construction school and look to see if community college near you offers those classes so you can build up some experience. You can also go online and look it up and see. Sometimes a mailman puts the community college booklet in your mailbox but I am sure you can go online and look at the classes they have and register.

I've done all that. It doesn't work. Except for construction. I've not tried construction yet. So, there's nothing else? Nothing else I'm missing?
Ok, I've called my Autism center at Emory in Ga. I've dealt with the as*holes at voc rehab twice. They suck. The autism center said to call voc rehab, autism speaks and Briggs and Associates http://www.briggsassociates.org
Let's see if I succeed or I get dicked around more.

Decide which part of the construction industry you want to work in.
Find out which companies in your area do that work.
Apply to all those hiring, and the rest that aren't advertising.
Get a job offer somewhere, accept it and go to work.

How do I make this decision? What rubric and criteria do I use?
How?
Ok, how do I present my work history in which they will give me the time of day? And how can I apply to those who aren't advertising if the only way I would know about them is if they advertised?
How do I just get a job offer? It is the employer who makes the offer. I don't just get a job offer.
I don't understand your answers.
Ok, I typed in what you said. Here is what I found. http://work.chron.com/construction-job- ... 18252.html
The instructions on this site and others similar to this are to vague. I can't make heads or tails with this garbage that they and others post.
And, you said I can find anything online now and get your answers. No, you can't find anything one doesn't realize one is ignorant about. If I don't get something and I don't realize I don't get it then how can I type it in to search? Another thing, most ppl interpret things a certain way and I may interpret it different. In other words your red is my green. Google and other search engines go by an algorithm. Algorithms do not interpret one's intent.

For example I typed in "Why do people hate athiests?" just to see the results for it and if the results will list the reason why people hate them and what their justification are. Sure enough my answers did pop up in the results to threads and blogs about why people hate them. I also typed in "How did religion start" and I got my answer too by google. Anything you don't know about, you can just type it in like it's ask jeeves. I even asked in google why do people let themselves get fat and I got search results too and saw threads about it and people say why people get fat.
This is how I learn. When I know I am ignorant about something and I want to understand, I try to look for the answer online.
And you're right that sometimes google doesn't give you what you want because I can type in parental abuse and child abuse results pop up as if it's saying kids are only violent and abusive because the adult is. I even asked on google the other night "What are the charges when you assault a 16 year old?" and instead results I got were about minors doing assault and what charges they can get as if adults don't ever assault teenagers.
If you need help with resumes, google search resumes and click on images and it will show you pictures of them and you open word pad or Microsoft word or something and use the center where you start typing in the middle of the paper than on the left and copy how the layout is on the resume. That is what I have always done. I would type in work resume to narrow the results and copy the layout of one of them and put on it what they had. Except you put down your own name and address and contact details and your past employment and work experience and put in your own skills that would make you good for the job. Even try construction resumes and see what you get.

How?
Type in "How do I find out which companies in (insert your area here or nearest city) do (insert work here you're looking for)?" and then hit enter in your search bar.
Ok, how do I present my work history in which they will give me the time of day? And how can I apply to those who aren't advertising if the only way I would know about them is if they advertised?[/quote]
Create a resume and put in your work history and skills and upload it to your email and submit it to them via email. They will have their email listed when hiring.
How do I just get a job offer? It is the employer who makes the offer. I don't just get a job offer.

Sometimes a work place will offer you a job saying they are considering you so you take it and then hope they will hire you but make sure it's in writing. I have been offered a job before a couple times and I always took them and it was never in writing because this was all local and I was unemployed. People will offer you one sometimes if they know you and know you need one and if they know your skills. Sometimes people will recommend you to employers. It's a matter of if you know lot of people and have lot of friends and socialize a lot and because us aspies aren't good at this and don't often do it nor have many friends, we get less job offers and less likely to get an offer and getting recommended. How do job offers happen, here is an example here:
My mom worked as a nurse and she knew someone at work who needed someone to help her clean her rental home. My mom said to her I can clean and told her how much I love to clean and how I do a good job at home so she decided to have me come do it. So we cleaned it together and she gave me 20 bucks. Months later, her husband who managed a thrift store needed someone to come there and clean as well and pick the place up so his wife recommended me because I did a good job cleaning their house. It's just luck here and being at the right place at the right time and it's also a matter of having friends and family and if someone is happening to need someone and bam they recommend you to them.

Voc Rehab is a joke. They are as useless as tits on a hen. They didn't really do anything to help me get a full time job. I find them to be clueless about autism.

I don't understand your answers.
It's entirely up to you what your criteria are. Some people like working inside warm and dry, others outside in the elements. Some like working with metal or concrete, others wood. Some like to paint, others frame or roof, others yet prefer finishing carpentry, and some prefer the workout of rough work like demolition. Only an individual can decide what they like and are suited for. You decide the criteria & make the decision.
Google? Phone book? Some listing of local contractors via a homebuilders association or something? There are many ways to find construction firms and where they are all going to be listed depends on your local market. Google/craigslist/angieslist/workopolis or some other job site. I have no idea what site contractors in your area use. Google it.
Put together a basic 1 page resume. That's how people convey their work experience and references. Google results/phone listings will give you a longer list of companies than just those that are advertising jobs available.
Anyone in the history of getting job offers just gets one. If an employer wants to hire you, they offer you a job. If you want to work for them, you accept it and get to work. Pretty simple stuff.
Not to sound like an as*hole, but if these extreme basics of preliminary steps required to apply for a job are beyond you then perhaps you are not suitable to be working anywhere. That's only for you & perhaps your doctor(s) to determine.
