Scott,

Ken Avery was the guy that bought the Turkey. It was ordered on Monday and prepared
by Kroger in the smoker over on Wirt Road in the Deli, frozen along w/ the entree's and
picked up early Thursday (8am), thawed and cooked again in our oven while being basted
generously.

That's really all we did...

BTW,

I got into this group via Shana Boutte who attends Ecclesia. She and I had been talking
about my possibly having Aspergers for a LONG time (years) before I finally swallowed
my pride and looked into this thing. You can find them here:

On the web:
http://www.asdfocus.com

In person:
Focus Initiative
12919 Southwest Frwy
Suite 190
Stafford, TX 77477
281.240.0663
281.240.9133 fax

Call and ask for Jaquelyn or Shana, they both are sweet, kind and
will put you at ease. I'm going to post something more about them
and how this program came about later on, it's a pretty interesting
story but I want to get permission from both of them before I do...

Yeah, all the turkey and the fixin's were wonderful. Especially eating it outside (except for a few pesky flies and bees), it felt cozy and a little scenic. Definitely was a more relaxed atmosphere than I'm accustomed to at a get-together which was defintely positive. Give my thanks to Ken. Too bad we were too full to enjoy a pizza, Scott :wtg: but thanks for bringing the tables and chairs.

Ana,

I want to write a blurb about why the club was started and what it is
meant to do for Aspie girls (and boys?). The whole subject of learning
empathy is so very important. Would that be okay with you?

(I, like you, need this training)...

I *REALLY* like the life at Auschwitz site and have some photographs
to add as well as a photograph of my Grandfathers teacup, lead eating
utensils and his green blanket with his Nazi prisoner number engraved.
They are physically at my dad's and I am trying to let him allow me to
place them at the Holocaust museum here in Houston for the next decade.

I have several scrap books of pictures and lots of audio from that era as
after the war (and his two year recuperation after being set free - barely
alive and his time with the Soviets as he recuperated. After the war my
grandfather dedicated his life to being a historian. Every time I went to
visit he would tell me stories (I now think, to help me understand) about
his time in the camp he was in over in Poland (Bergen/Belsen? I forgot!)
but because of this, one of my deepest Aspie loves is the history of the
atrocities done in WWII ...

Thanks for putting the site together - I wish Grandpa could have seen it!

Jeffrey
Hey! Was your grandfather in Ausxhwitz? That's what the site is about. Bergen-Belsen is in Germany; many Auschwitz prisoners were marched from Auschwitz in Poland to Bergen-Belsen in Germany when Auschwitz was evacuated just before the liberation. You have pictures of Auschwitz or stuff from /Auschwitz? Yay; can I see them?

I'm sorry I missed the Thanksgiving dinner... I think we'll make it to the Christmas one.

Christmas. How exciting. Name the place? please? Course I suppose I could ask around a little and find if anything can be reserved. Should it be near downtown, west side, east?

DigitalChicken was there. I am glad that he left right before the fire department and police showed up.

Probably near downtown so that it's a centralized location. I'm trying to figure out a meetup spot for December that is "AS-compatible" as well.

No..and what we were doing was legal...someone just had to call the fire department on us....perhaps the same entity who did it repeatedly in order to have us shut down.

They just caused a big ruckus and had us put the fire out and stuff.

I am bumping this thread because I was looking for it and couldn't find it for some reason..

to elaborate, even though we don't have any close neighbors persay, there is someone in the neighborhood who has had a fondness of calling the fire department on us at whim ever since we moved there.

Our gathering did not go against city code, but we somehow managed to end up with a fire truck, 3 cop cars, some van that was either the bomb squad, a paddy wagon, or the SWAT team, and several tow trucks surrounding our building

They brought out their hose and doused our fire pit.
Then the cops said that they were not exactly sure that we were breaking the law, but they would go home and do research to figure it out, and get back with us.

DANG! :o
I missed all the fun?
Im sorrey that happened to you guys.
Im sure it was very scary and stressful.

I had nothing to do with it, But I had a gut feeling it would eventually happen. Just nothing on that scale. Fires on streetcorners do get attention.
The thing about Cops and firemen, theyre bored. so when they get to do something, they will often go over the top.
I think these things have to happen in due corse, untill they get to know you.
If someone is using the city to harass you, you want the city to get to know you better.
When they know you and what you're about, they will know that they are being played by a harasser.
Please do let the city help you. Cops and firemen are very charitable and protective people.
Feed them coffee and doughnuts and you've got friends!

Other than that, on what I was there for, we had a grand time. The lentils were awesome. Some gutiar and bongo songs, and it was chilly. some one had the best idea and came wrapped up with a puppy! A big one. very cute.

Had a swell time.

"They would go home and do research .... "

Hehehehheheheheh ....

Yeah, I can't wait till I get finished with Law School ... I'd love to
have some fun with that, you can (legally) really prank with official
folk when they make statements like "having to do research" ...

I'd be calling them to see what thier research turned up and then
forcing charges for "filing a false police report" pressed against
the "entity" who called that fire in ...

And legally, they cannot deny pressing those charges...

What exactly happened that resuled in the police, bomb squad, etc. being called?

DigitalChicken, welcome to WP! When school isn't in session, I live in Deer Park, only about 10-15 minutes from Seabrook.

Alright, anyone interested in a meetup for this month? Perhaps the week before X-mas?

Me, Christian, and Scott saw Olivia and her crew perform at this quaint coffee shop called Waldo's in the Heights. They have open mic on Thursday night and Olivia suggested that we might do a meetup at there. Olivia, should we meet up on a Thursday open mic or should the meetup be on another day?

If Waldo's is not doable, I can suggest Hermann Park. There's a wonderful section of the park that has benches that face each other so we can use those benches and also bring chairs to create a sort of circle of "aspie angst" heh

I'm hoping we can do the meetup on a day inside the week of Dec. 15 - 21st. Any opinions?
