In my opinion, DarthMaxeuis' grandparents, or their dog, can join us if they really want to, but they shouldn't expect us to acknowledge their presence in any way.
We will be concentrating on our aspie meeting and we will not have the time, nor energy, to speak to non-aspies.

That sounds a bit harsh to me! For one, having spent my entire life speaking with non-Aspies, 2 more won't make any difference. In reality, I'm only guessing that speaking with Aspies will be any easier than non-Aspies. Another aspect is that DarthMaxeuis's grandparents are probably closer to my age than DarthMaxeuis is - and I'm interested in seeing Avignon too, so we'll have that in common.

As you say, everyone is free to behave how they are best comfortable. Nobody has to make special allowances for DM's grandparents. However, I'm sure they won't be made to feel as 'outsiders'.

I may draw the line at meaningful conversation with their dog, though 8)

There are still flights available with Ryanair from London Luton to Nimes ( which is only 8€ and 35-50 minutes away from Avignon by train ), on the Thursday 28 May returning on the Monday, for £71.86 Return incl. taxes etc.

Less than 6 weeks! :D

In under 6 weeks time we will all have met, visited the Palais des Papes, ( probably ? ), eaten a couple of meals together in Avignon, maybe set off for Arles/other beautiful place in the area, or strolled through the shady squares and narrow winding streets, looked at a renaissance chapel or two, bought some regional cheeses, olive-paté, marzipan sweets, macaroons, wines or crusty french bread, strolled round a flea-market, or simply decided to hang out at a café-terrace or in a park. :)

Has everybody got their plane/train ticket, booked a room at the Etap Hotel, ( or checked out camping ), and an up to date passport, ( for those coming from the UK )?

Anyone else interested in coming is still very welcome to join us. 8)

My parents have offered to pay for our holiday to Provence, so I will be able to afford to come to the meet after all :)
I have booked from Friday 29th May to Tuesday 2nd June as this is the cheapest option for me. I'm looking forward to meeting everybody.

Hello everybody! I haven´t been on this thread for awhile because for some reason I stopped getting emails in my mailbox from Alex that there were any posts added....so I didn´t visit here for some time, thinking this thread was finished.

Wow, it sounds like more people are coming! I´m looking forward to it.

Well...just wanted to write something, basically so I´ll get the emails about added posts, so I can be involved again....bis gleich....

I don't have a problem with the grandparents, especially if it's the only way darth can come to the meeting.

I'm looking forward to this. Is everyone staying at the one hotel? I haven't booked anythign yet, but ill check it all out online sometime this week

:D

I think everybody is staying at the Etap Hotel, ( though I haven't heard from GeomAsp ), but I have replied to your pm about cheaper accom, with details of the Youth Hostel which has cheap dorm beds, ( and one/two single rooms at 34 € /night which I didn't know  ; don't know if there will be one available anymore for that weekend now though ), and camping.

I really hope you can make it. :)

Great. We're looking forward to meet you. :)
I'm finally back from my holidays in Jordan.
It was wonderful, me and my family visited Petra (One scene of one indiana Jones was filmed there ; it's a wonderful Nabataean (but not only ; it was after inhabited by the Romans) city whose houses, temples etc. are carved in the mountain.) Jerash, took a bath in the Dead Sea, and slept in tents in Wadi Rum.
Oh, and I booked a room about an hour ago in the Etap Hotel of Avignon, have an up-to-date passport (I need it to leave Qatar and return to my home country), and booked my Doha-Marseille plane ticket a long time ago (And then me and my grand-parents will go by car to Avignon)...
So everything is OK I guess...
I have a question... :D
What sort of regional cheese do you find in Avignon (I love cheese !)?

Me too! :)

Aswell as "regular" french cheeses the regional specialities are goat's cheeses of various kinds; the small round white ones which can buy/eat either soft and fresh like cream cheese, ( plain, or rolled in herbs or crushed nuts or spices, or raisins/dried fruit, black pepper, etc etc etc ), or more aged so like a caerphilly/stilton, ( delicious with a tomato and tapenade, the mmmmm olive paste of Southern France ), or even older so begins to resemble the very hard, and strong tasting, italian cheeses, ( and can eat in thin slivers like that, or lightly grilled/melted on little toasts or "draped" on salad ), and there are also Tommes, which are larger, and can be like stiff/young bries, or particularly tasty creamy cheddars/comtés.

Apparently there are others, but I don't know about them, so will be finding out when we are there! :D
