I have tattoos. They are a good conversation topic that I can work with. As is my coloured hair- which I have been doing for over 20 years and now suddenly it seems really popular to have your hair purple or turquoise.

So yeah, hair dying is one of my Aspie obesessions. At the moment it's bright pink and black.
My daughter is also a bit of an obsession. I got really involved in finding out everything I could about being pregnant, I loved learning how to care for her and finding out about her development, and I could talk about her for ages.
Clothes are another one. Not that I follow fashion. But I like to collect pretty things that feel nice. Buying baby clothes for my daughter was a double whammy of happiness!
I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy. I read a lot, but not that quickly.
I also escape into a fantasy world in my head. Quite often I make up romantic stories (nothing rude mind you!) and replay them over and over in my head. I have noticed that this happens more when I am stressed, and now I use how much time I spend with stories in my head as a measure of how stressed I am.

Oh, and I forgot the useful ones. Like Sign Language (which is now my job) and finding out about Autism (which will also provide me with more work opportunities, as I am a Teaching Assistant).

Cool! I don't think any of those obsessions are not useful, especially of they help you be a better parent or able to start conversations with people :D . I love finding more out about autism- it's one of my obsessions as well :D .

My interests can easily go from interests to obsessions as well. Sometimes I go through times where my interests are really intense too! :D

A discloser of an obsession is a big statement, its actually a diagnosis all of it own, but I get what you are saying so....

My "Obsessions" are often surround objects and imperfections in them. Scratches on things I value drive my mad. I noticed a few scratches on the tube of my Newtonian reflector astronomical telescope a couple of weeks back as an example, its eating away at me. I will go and look at them and wipe them with a soft cloth several times a day, its bad enough to keep me from sleep, perhaps for a couple of nights. Sometimes if something I own gets damaged then I will have to sell or give away whatever it is (usually guitars or fishing rods) or I can not get any mental respite until I do. I like things to match, so telescope eyepieces have to be the same brand and model. If I am one short of a set, or god help me one get damaged then I have been known to get up in the middle of the night to buy another to complete the set or I can't sleep.

I have a thing about the number 1 too when it comes to objects and like whatever by special interest is to be a simple as possible, so like I have one Telescope and the absolute minimum kit (which must all match to go with it) I have tried owning two telescopes but I can't do it, I have to get rid of one. The same is true of guitars or fly fishing gear, only ever one rod and one reel. I recently after taking lots of walks along the shore have started thinking about going sea fishing again, but if I do I will need a new rod, this means I will have to sell my fly fishing gear...I know its crazy, but my head will spin until I do.

Having a special interest takes up so much of my mental energy, and then if something spoils it, I have to change it and then go do something else, change my interest or I will "Obsess" about it for weeks until I do. Now I have even begun too think about going sea fishing again its firmly planted in my head, writing this certainly does not help. When I used to practice Tai Chi I would practice obsessively, often 4 hours plus a day. I would practice before work, at work (two half hour brakes and a 1 hour break) and then if I was not teaching Tai Chi, or attending my wife class (thats another 2 hours 3 times a week) I would usually practice for another couple of hours. This went on for the best part of 10 years.

I get what you mean. I have OCD as a comorbid, so I have the negative type of thing as well. I hope you can find a way to work through them :D .

I am beyond excited about the possibility of Rafael Nadal becoming number one in the world. He can do it if he makes the semis in Montreal.

My 'most intense special interests/obsessions' are Architecture and Music. Will write, further, tomorrow, as I am currently, fading out. Great topic/post, by the way. Not sure why I hadn't happened upon it, until this moment. :flower:

I hate that I said I'd be back, 'tomorrow', and neglected to return. And, now, it is the middle of the night, and, again, I am fading out. It could take an entire page (or two), to write about my obsessions, but, perhaps I'll share the trimmed down version. I had pondered generating a post regarding the lengths people have gone with there obsessions/special interests, be it conventional, or out of the norm. I have some architecture stories that I could share, that are somewhat out there.

I hope you have a nice day, SSF ~ ><)))'> o0 o0 o <'(((><

These are visible tattoos - English upper-classes had hidden tattoos denoting their membership f certain exclusive groups

Some of the most fascination tattoos are found amongst the Russian prison population - scary!

I have tattoos and had them done for religious/ritual purposes...

Two more matches to go for Rafa to make number one! He is playing Denis Shapovalvov, an 18 year old Canadian of Russian descent (yes, another Russian named Denis!) I like Denis S., but I'm rooting for Rafael. Should be an interesting match.
