What exactly happened that resuled in the police, bomb squad, etc. being called?

DigitalChicken, welcome to WP! When school isn't in session, I live in Deer Park, only about 10-15 minutes from Seabrook.

There is someone in the neighborhood...we don't know who....who likes to call the fire marshall on us whenever they feel the whim..and whenever we have any sort of gathering...

And they called in our fire pit fire....

I missed all the fun?
Im sorrey that happened to you guys.
Im sure it was very scary and stressful.

I had nothing to do with it, But I had a gut feeling it would eventually happen. Just nothing on that scale. Fires on streetcorners do get attention.
The thing about Cops and firemen, theyre bored. so when they get to do something, they will often go over the top.
I think these things have to happen in due corse, untill they get to know you.
If someone is using the city to harass you, you want the city to get to know you better.
When they know you and what you're about, they will know that they are being played by a harasser.
Please do let the city help you. Cops and firemen are very charitable and protective people.
Feed them coffee and doughnuts and you've got friends!

Other than that, on what I was there for, we had a grand time. The lentils were awesome. Some gutiar and bongo songs, and it was chilly. some one had the best idea and came wrapped up with a puppy! A big one. very cute.

Had a swell time.

DC

We have had several similar gatherings where the fire dept was not called, and police cars would routinely drive by and say nothing...
I would not mind letting the police and fire-folk help..but the atmosphere at that time was not condusive...what with all the flashing lights and a crew including several somewhat drunk and agitated Aspie-types...like our pal Kevin (of the tiny guitar)...who would not stop yelling at them....
I feel pretty intimidated by people in uniform most of the time...especially when they are all puffed up...and me not posessing of the greatest communication skills to begin with...We really need to figure out how to work with them better, because they are an entity that is not gonna leave us alone the way they did at our last location...

We will be having our firepit again tonight if anyone is interested..I am not sure whether we plan on changing our configuration, seeing as what we were doing was not against city code...We need to make it understood that there should not be any acting out if they do show up again.

Anywhoo...come on out folks...7-ish...

Alright, anyone interested in a meetup for this month? Perhaps the week before X-mas?

Me, Christian, and Scott saw Olivia and her crew perform at this quaint coffee shop called Waldo's in the Heights. They have open mic on Thursday night and Olivia suggested that we might do a meetup at there. Olivia, should we meet up on a Thursday open mic or should the meetup be on another day?

If Waldo's is not doable, I can suggest Hermann Park. There's a wonderful section of the park that has benches that face each other so we can use those benches and also bring chairs to create a sort of circle of "aspie angst" heh

I'm hoping we can do the meetup on a day inside the week of Dec. 15 - 21st. Any opinions?

If we did meet up at Waldo's, I would not want to do it on a thursday/open mic occasion..I am usually very on-edge then...Some saturday...perhaps...

this is happening at the Orange Show on Saturday...it sounds interesting...you had mentioned a possible Orange Show meetup..

We are preparing for the fire pit thingy right now..I think the plan is to use charcoal and not make the fire so darn big and flamy and see if that helps...

Hope peeps show...

Hey Olivia, how did the firepit assembly go this time? No complications? Hopefully, the nuisance neighbor minded his own business :hmph:

I think things went really well.
The charcoal pit was very hot, but I missed the flames. however, grilling was easier without lapping flames.
I donated a fire poker, choclate cookies and bread rolls. Kevin11 didnt show when I was there.
I hpe he comes back, he was a lot of fun with his silly songs.
Flakey did a really good rendition of that robert earl king Christmas classic, im sure you know the one, where the cours is going to stors to get stuff like tampons and a can of fake snow. Redneck christmas?:rendeer:

These guys at SHFL try hard to put on a good cook out and spend no small amout of $$ getting food and now charcoal, so I would encourage everyone show up and contribute what you can to the cause, at least a few dollars for feeding your mugs.

Thanks, SHFL :hail:

Yeah...and the members of my bicycle gang showed up...."Montrose Bike Gang"
(those were all the people who showed up at once on bikes)...

We spend about $60 or so per cookout...donations wouldn't hurt, but they are not mandatory.

Hey, ya'll. I'll go ahead and suggest a noon meetup for next Sunday on the 21st. I'm gonna go with Olivia's suggestion and have it at a coffeehouse in the Heights called Waldo's.

Their physical address is: 1030 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77008

I know this is only a weeks notice and also so close to X-mas, so I'll understand if not many of us show up.

Also, for this meetup, how about we each bring one or two questions that we would like to ask each other about Asperger's. It's something we're all dealing with on some level, so this could be our "ice-breaker" discussion.

For those who like to see things visually, here are a few pics of the coffeehouse:

It's a cozy place with a back room that has a large table that hopefully we'll be able to claim heh

Oh, I definitely want to come! Me and Jack can bring our 3-week-old son Finnegan and you guys can look at him and guess if he's going to have AS!

That looks like a nice place. I hope we get the back room too.
