Oh God, this cheese sounds so good. And I´m not supposed to eat it (no dairy products)....dang! I may have to cheat a bit...maybe a small taste...hmmmm....

Registered cheese addict here!

I've found French cheese quite bland when compared to English, though. (I know the French will hate that as they know their food to be much better than ours). It could be due to not looking in the right places, hopefully Ouinon can guide us to the most flavoursome...and the wine(s) to accompany them. 8)

Oh yes, high quality wine is an absolute must! (Preferably red). And THAT, at least, I can consume, being gluten free, dairy free, soy free. Thank God for wine!! ! (And I plan to be drinking it... :D )

My parents have offered to pay for our holiday to Provence, so I will be able to afford to come to the meet after all :)
I have booked from Friday 29th May to Tuesday 2nd June as this is the cheapest option for me. I'm looking forward to meeting everybody.

Great. We're looking forward to meet you. :)
I'm finally back from my holidays in Jordan.
It was wonderful, me and my family visited Petra (One scene of one indiana Jones was filmed there ; it's a wonderful Nabataean (but not only ; it was after inhabited by the Romans) city whose houses, temples etc. are carved in the mountain.) Jerash, took a bath in the Dead Sea, and slept in tents in Wadi Rum.
Oh, and I booked a room about an hour ago in the Etap Hotel of Avignon, have an up-to-date passport (I need it to leave Qatar and return to my home country), and booked my Doha-Marseille plane ticket a long time ago (And then me and my grand-parents will go by car to Avignon)...
So everything is OK I guess...
I have a question... :D
What sort of regional cheese do you find in Avignon (I love cheese !)?

Nice that you had a good holiday in Jordan - I was there last year (for 3 days, and 11 days in Israel), and visited Petra, Jerash and Wadi Rum too. I liked that very much. :D

I've just got back from my holiday in Provence. We spent a day in Avignon, which was very interesting. We didn't have time to go in the palace but we looked round the cathedral and the gardens, which have good views over the town. I'm looking forward to going back there.

The palace

The cathedral

The Pont d'Avignon from the cathedral gardens

Why didn't you call me when you where in Israel?
I could have introduced you to our local aspie community.
We could have made a mini Wrong Planet gathering in Tel Aviv, or in Jerusalem, or somewhere else in the country.

I wasn't aware that any WP members lived in Israel. Or I had forgotten it.

But anyway I'm not sure I would have had time for a mini Wrong Planet gathering because I travelled with a group and we were on guided tours. We had a day without program though, namely one of the days in Jerusalem.
(In case we had made a gathering we could have invited Greentea too. :) )

Four weeks to go! :D

By the way, ManErg and Morgana, I might be able to point you in direction of interesting cheeses, :) but I know almost nothing about wine! ( apart from a couple of regional dessert/aperitif wines, that is! )

Thank for the pics, Seashell. I think Avignon is worth more than one visit too. It's good you didn't manage the Palais des Papes; we can all go together. :) I haven't seen it either; it's always seemed a bit daunting somehow.

Oh, don´t worry, this is France; I´m sure all the wines are good. Probably the locals can give us good recommendations- (i.e., hotel and restaurant personnel).

Three weeks ! !! 8O :D ... ....

Until ManErg, me, KenG, Morgana, Seashell, Darth Maxeuis, English-Lulu, Raggle-taggle-gypsy, and maybe GeomAsp, ( but haven't had reply from him to a pm checking so suspect not ), meet up for a weekend in Avignon.

Other people still very welcome to join us. 8)

:flower: :flower: :flower:

PS. Have you found cheap-enough accommodation yet, Raggle-taggle-gypsy? :) Was the hostel I linked to any good?

Yeah!! !!

I´m so looking forward to it!...though, I´m also starting to get a little nervous about it now.

How are we going to meet up? As we´re all arriving at different times? We´ll have to figure that out....

I've been nervous on and off, and excited about it on and off. Sometimes I think it will be dire, and other times I imagine it going really well. I suppose that at the very least, because it's in a town, not a country retreat, if we don't get on or can't bear it, ( and when we need down time too ), we can wander off and do our own thing.

People arriving "early" could arrange between themselves to meet if they want, but we need to know more or less when everyone will have got there so that we can fix some main meet "moment", ( preferably by pm ), to start the weekend off.

I will be arriving on the Friday morning, towards midday, and would love to meet people for lunch, ( or even a "mid-morning-coffee" if it looks like I can get there for 10.30/11.00 ).

I know that you and ManErg arrive on the Thursday, and KenG on the Wednesday, but don't know when Seashell, Darth Maxeuis, English-Lulu or Raggle are due to touchdown. If don't hear on this thread in the next week or so I will pm them to find out. :)

A splendid time is guaranteed for all :)
If not guaranteed, then at least expected.

Attention please!

With only two and a half weeks to go, we need to know more or less exactly when people are arriving in Avignon, so that we can arrange, ( by pm perhaps rather than on the forum? ), our first meeting point, and maybe a "fall-back" one too for anyone delayed etc.

As I said above we know that KenG is arriving Wednesday, ManErg and Morgana both on the Thursday sometime, and me on the Friday morning, ... but could everyone else who is coming please say on here, or in pm, when they expect to get there. That means English-Lulu, Seashell, Raggle, and Darth Maxeuis, ( and GeomAsp ? ), and anyone who is interested but has not yet posted on here. :)

If I don't hear from people by Wednesday I will pm the ones I know about, and we'll then discuss when and where to make the first big meet up. I think that it might be a good idea to do that by pm. What do other people think?

It seems to have taken years to get to May, then all of a sudden, its just rushing by!

Yes, I'm arriving Thursday afternoon. Probably mid-late afternoon by the time I've got to the hotel. I shall PM my mobile number to everyone on the list at some time soon. First, though, I need to check it will actually work OK there. :? Also I'll include my full real name, so you can find me in the hotel.

It sounds like at least 3 of us could have an evening meal & stroll around Avignon on Thursday, then meet up with others for lunch on Friday. As Ouinon says, we do need to know what time people are arriving so excursions can be planned around meeting people.

Most people on this thread already have my mobile number.
Morgana will send me a text message (or call me) around the time she arrives in Avignon. ManErg is invited to do the same.

I guess the "big" meet up should be on Friday, around noon?
For simplicity reasons, the "big" meet up location should be the Etap hotel's lobby?
