We don't know whether everyone will want, or be able, to go to the same place and at the same time, which is why, after discussion with people on this thread, I have posted two new polls to find out when and where those 40 people, ( and anyone else who is interested, obviously :) ), can go.

I have just realised a major flaw in both polls, there is no "anytime/anywhere", ( or never/nowhere ), option in either.

:x :( :? :x

gggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhh!

s**t, etc.

What can we do about it?

Help ! ManErg, Greentea, Lotusblossom, Morgana, KenG, ( and others who have been involved in this thread/idea since the early pages/stages, and anyone else interested ), what should we do next in light of this abysmal gaping hole in the two polls :?: :?

Maybe we could post two new polls with fewer/reduced number of time and place options, based on the shaky but perhaps approximately accurate results of the two holey polls.

ie: The Place/"where to go" poll with choice only between London, S. France, and the two/three destinations closest to them in popularity, and the Time/"when to go" poll with choice between May/June, July, August and September only.

And that would then allow space for the missing ingredients ; "anywhere/time" "nowhere/never" and any other useful specifications we think of. :)

I am going out now for big, ( family ) shopping expedition, so won't be around for a couple of hours, but look forward to seeing what everybody has come up with when I get back. :D

I see lots of people have been posting heaps of good ideas for how to refine/fine-hone plans for a european WP meeting. ( joke )

It is Saturday in Europe so perhaps everybody has been out shopping like me.

ManErg, I saw your post on the "where to go" thread. Do we need any more polls? I don't know. What do other people think?

If not then I vote for S. France in late May/June, ( because the weather would be perfect then and there would not yet be hordes of tourists ), and London in August because that's when I'm free to travel there!

It looks as if S. France in late May/June would fit for most of the people who want to go there, ( correct me if I'm wrong ), but I think we do need to establish when/which month would most suit the sizeable London contingent, however.

So we could maybe "officially" announce a meet in central S. France, and also set up a new poll specifically for the London gathering.

Maybe people are getting bored of the speculation and want 2-3 people to agree to meet up, then invite everyone else along :)

That is pretty much what has happened about the central Southern France meet. About 5 of us, at least, know that we're going, and that it will be in late May/June, so "all" that's left to do is organise accomodation at a price that suits us. :D And other people can get involved/join us at any point.

And it looks as if the London meet may attract enough people to make it worthwhile booking/hiring a venue, not just stay in a B&B/small hotel, so it is important to find out exactly when people need it to be so that they can come, so we can investigate venues/hotels.

:!:  The latest, more precise poll, ( for the London meet only ), is at:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt91124.html

If you are interested in the London meet please go and vote. :)

I have just posted a thread with poll to discuss the S. France meet, at:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt91153.html

If you voted for a gathering in central Southern France and are still interested, or have just decided to go, please vote on that thread and post your preferences/requirements, including an approximate budget limit etc, etc, etc, so that we can look for accommodation for the meet.

Thanks! :D

It´s Saturday; no, I was not out shopping, it was a big work day for me. Ugh...I´m tired now. I don´t think I have any "executive function" left for any planning or ideas...sorry...I could barely comprehend the posts about the polls...sorry, that´s just me, and I´m tired. But this sounds interesting:

Let me know about that, the place and time sound good too. I have off from work the last weekend in May- June 1st; but, if you make it another time, I would be willing to rearrange my schedule.

I am a little less interested in England, as I will probably be going there Easter, and I go there quite a lot anyway.

Count me in! Unfortunately for me no flights from Bristol airport to Gap or Toulon. I'm considering flying from Heathrow or doing the whole thing by train, depending on cost. I rejected driving the whole way, it's just too far, although would possibly work out cheaply if 3 or 4 sharing in 1 car.

BTW, you were right about the absences. Saturday is a busy day for me, out and about with the children, catching up on chores that don't get done in the week due to being stuck in an office etc.

Well as you have been instrumental in the France meetup, you could always pass on the responsibility to somebody closer to London maybe? Of course you may be quite happy to continue with it yourself, I just know how much hard work is involved in arranging things like this and how irritating it is when the freeloaders turn up and complain that the cushions aren't comfy enough  Human nature, love it or loath it, we're all stuck with it!

Go for it! I'm getting excited already. Still lots to do though....but I wonder, just what will happen when we all finally meet and critical mass is reached? Fabric of the space-time continuum rent asunder? Or will we all be stunningly disappointed and spend the time in our rooms communicating via WP on laptop? :)

No!! ! No more polls. Rome wasn't built on polls. No war has been won by polls. No amount of polling could ever have discovered relativity, the wheel or the recipe for cupcakes.

What we need now is leadership. Firm, strong, hard but impartial leadership.

The trouble with polling at this stage (talking about France, not London) is that you are so familier with the area, we'd be fools to think we know better.

The date may be open to debate, but enough have said they are OK with late May/early June that any time then should be OK. How about a date range centred on a weekend when everybody would meet up, allowing people the flexibility to turn up on say, thursday, or stay till tuesday, but knowing that saturday/sunday we would all be there?

By the way, Lotusblossom is waiting to hear which weekend in June another AS organisation she belongs to choose for their annual meet up, ( because she wants to go to that too, and also thinks it will split numbers for this; ... I don't know ), so perhaps we'd better wait until that is fixed, or else go for Morgana's weekend, the last one in May? :?:

 Who would be for the last weekend in May? With extra days/rest-of-week on top of that as your budget, energy, and/or schedule allows. I will post that on the other ( French event  ) thread.

No more polls.

The one on the France thread was just meant to focus things a bit, but I agree it isn't really necessary anymore for that meet. That thread is intended more for discussion/updates etc about the holiday! :D

It has just occurred to me that the most symbolic location for an Aspie-Europen meeting is Vienna - The city in which Dr Hans Asperger discovered us!
Nevermind - We could do Vienna during 2010, or during some other year in the future.

I am happy to share car and travel costs with you, though I cant drive so I could not share the burdon of driving unfortunately.

Well, we decided on a date for the S. France meet-up, the weekend beginning the 29th May, and a place, Avignon, because Daniel Tammet lives there ! !! , no, well, not entirely; because it is a beautiful small city and is slightly cheaper than Arles, and more interesting than Montelimar.

And maybe, if one of us feels brave/excited enough we will ask Tammet to join us one afternoon while we're in Avignon. :D

We are going to hold off on booking any rooms at either of the two hotels we have more or less settled on, until Wednesday 18th February, so that people who would like to go who but haven't been on WP recently, and haven't seen the thread, have a chance to see it in the next few days.

All WP'ers are welcome.

The thread about the S. France meet is at:

Ok, I'll consider that. May be best if I PM you about it. I can barely connect to WP at the moment. Between my ISP that grinds to a halt in the evenings and WP being so busy, it's taken me 20 mins to get this far.
