Great initiative! 
I have a suggestion though. Don´t you think that it might be an idea to organize an asperger conference in America and another one in Europe? That would save an enormous amount of money for the European aspergers. Flying from Europe to the US is incredibly expensive at the moment.

As this is a big undertaking, it is enough to try and organize just one event. I would suggest that people in Europe, if there's enough interest, organize their own European event.

I thought that Alex was going to organize an international event. A conference that is going to be organized for USA citizens only can hardly be called international can it?

It's a very safe area for those that need to get out and walk and get away when need be and an easy trek from LAX for those flying in from out of the area.

Aspie/ASDer or NOT, getting away from all the ruckus and goings-on is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for me as it provides a means for me to clear my head and return to some sense of "normalcy" after being around noise and people for too long.
It is difficult for most people to understand just how and why I need this quiet time alone where I say little, if anything at all. Attempting to participate in an event with a lot of noise and activities causes my thinking to become garbled as I try to process what people are saying to me and navigate through the crowds - therefore, the way I react in these situations becomes impaired. If I'm in a place where I don't know the people, I become lost in the crowd and confloosterbated!
A few years ago, I went to a conference at the Lake of the Ozarks and was thrust into an environment where I didn't know a lot of people other than my co-workers. The resort was AMAZING with spectacular lake views and quiet places to sit and/or walk among the piers where people tied their yachts. Bliss.
Another conference I went to was full of people I knew but it was TOTAL SENSORY OVERLOAD meaning I could NOT enjoy the hospitality room or play cards very well. The hallways were VERY crowded and NOISY. The jamboree-style main session I attended found me standing up against the wall being completely mute! When it was time for me to yell and cheer I just stood there - I was actively observing, but COMPLETELY MUTE! And THIS was among people I actually KNEW!
I think a WP conference would be nice, but it MUST include GETAWAY TIME for attendees in appropriate places.
If you held it in New Orleans, there is always the terrace area at the Riverwalk Mall leading to the Julia Street Cruise Ship Terminal with views of the river and any of the megaships that dock there!

I can't second (or third, or forth) these sentiments more heartily: NOT having the event in a big hotel or Las Vegas. I have been to LV. No place in the world (and I've traveled a quite a bit) is more antithetical, IMHO, to Aspergian needs and values than LV. Garish, plastic, phony, crawling with NT types engaged in their bizarre social interactions. Maybe DisneyWorld on the forth of July would be worse. Maybe not.
I posted this once before, (and won't do so again, promise) but ASILOMAR CONFRENCE CENTER in Pacific Grove CA. It is quiet, lots of lovely outdoor space, big and small meeting rooms, close to the ocean, INEXPENSIVE, located on central coast of CA. You can find it on Google.

I just googled it..its next to Monterey? It sounds and looks great but the problem becomes logistics....how does someone like me who lives in New Jersey get a flight there? Would I have to fly to San Francisco or San Jose and than what? it seems to be somewhat out of the way and hard to reach for people not in the vicinity.
