I went to the autism gathering at the Pioneer Courthouse Square. Not much people showed up. Maybe about seven. We had fliers about autism and some links and we handed them out to people but not many stopped by to see what we had. We just stood around and talked and waited for anyone to come up to us to see what we had.

Even though my family is in town, I still went to this because I felt it was important.

I guess we saw each other ViperaAspis, I wonder which one you were?

Happy Autistic Pride Day!

I was so exited I wasn't aware there was so many things going on here in Brazil. I would go to the "Chamber of Deputies" were there was a discussion about public policies and stuff but I was sick  (too bad!).

I think you may have handed me the flyer. I was the one hiding behind a large orange hat, blue shirt, and mirrored glasses (my "armor") who still got marked when the Japanese contingent of city officials came by (I could not believe it when that happened). I took a photo for them and then one of them hung out to talk to me afterwards.

You may have heard a discussion in Japanese coming from off to the group's left (your right, since you were standing I think); that was me. I left quickly after that occurred, but missed that joke punchline. Gaaah!

Let's chat more on the meetup site. I don't want to say anything that would expose either of our true identities here. :)

After Action report: Autistic Pride Day gathering in HaYarkon Park, Tel Aviv, Israel
==============================================================
Ten people attended the gathering - 7 aspies (including Sarafina7 and myself) and 3 neurotypical allies.
I was the only male aspie in the gathering. This is quite interesting, since most aspies are supposed to be males. One possible explanation is that female aspies are more social than male aspies, so they are more inclined to attend such gatherings. (there was another male aspie who was planning to come, but he could not make it).

The gatheirng revolved mainly around special interests, which were related mostly to animals, or to art.
We sat at a large table, on which we put most of the things that we had brought. We put the other things on the grass, nearby.
I brought juggling balls. Another participant brought her postcards collection. Another participant brought a book about wolves (or was it about dogs? I'm not sure).
One participant brought her collection of seashells, and also a book about seashells. Another participant brought an MP4 player, on which she played a video presentation about cats, that she had made. (I mean she had made the video presentation. She did not make the cats...).
One participant brought papers and crayons, balloons, and materials/equipment for making soap bubbles.
We all painted with the crayons, blowed up the balloons and tied them to a rope which we tied between two trees. We also made a lot of soap bubbles.

One of the NT allies who came is planning to make a documentary about the Autistic Culture and the Autistic Rights Movement, so she asked me lots of questions, for her research.

At about 9 pm, when it became too dark in the park, some of us went home, but 5 of us went to the apartment of one of the participants, who lives nearby. We ordered a large pizza for all of us, and we sat and talked until about 11 pm. Then we all went home.

It was a very nice Autistic Pride Day gathering. It was relaxed, lively and a lot of fun.

Portland was the place to be this year for Autism Day, wasn't it?

I looked at this photograph, and I noticed that Elesia is actually wearing an "I love neurodiversity" t-shirt, which is even nicer :)

Autistic Pride Day 2009 in Columbus, Ohio:
Eight ASAN members, led by ASAN Central Ohio Chapter Director Melanie Yergeau, celebrated Autistic Pride Day 2009 by visiting the Ohio statehouse and meeting with two state representatives, Rep. Kevin Bacon and Rep. Ted Celeste. The group handed out flyers and briefly explained the goals and work of ASAN.
