After Action report: Autistic Pride Day gathering in HaYarkon Park, Tel Aviv, Israel
==============================================================
Ten people attended the gathering - 7 aspies (including Sarafina7 and myself) and 3 neurotypical allies.
I was the only male aspie in the gathering. This is quite interesting, since most aspies are supposed to be males. One possible explanation is that female aspies are more social than male aspies, so they are more inclined to attend such gatherings. (there was another male aspie who was planning to come, but he could not make it).
The gatheirng revolved mainly around special interests, which were related mostly to animals, or to art.
We sat at a large table, on which we put most of the things that we had brought. We put the other things on the grass, nearby.
I brought juggling balls. Another participant brought her postcards collection. Another participant brought a book about wolves (or was it about dogs? I'm not sure).
One participant brought her collection of seashells, and also a book about seashells. Another participant brought an MP4 player, on which she played a video presentation about cats, that she had made. (I mean she had made the video presentation. She did not make the cats...).
One participant brought papers and crayons, balloons, and materials/equipment for making soap bubbles.
We all painted with the crayons, blowed up the balloons and tied them to a rope which we tied between two trees. We also made a lot of soap bubbles.
One of the NT allies who came is planning to make a documentary about the Autistic Culture and the Autistic Rights Movement, so she asked me lots of questions, for her research.
At about 9 pm, when it became too dark in the park, some of us went home, but 5 of us went to the apartment of one of the participants, who lives nearby. We ordered a large pizza for all of us, and we sat and talked until about 11 pm. Then we all went home.
It was a very nice Autistic Pride Day gathering. It was relaxed, lively and a lot of fun.
