Celexa made me:

4) more creative
5) faster in thinking and talking
6) more motivated
7) more stimulated
8 ) funnier (better sense of humor)
9) more sexually aroused (but maybe that was jsut because I was less depressed and anxious)
10) fearless (no more, or a lot less, generalized anxiety)
11) not embarrassed at all (no more social anxiety)
12) smarter/more clever/quicker (including in my sense of humor)

But that was only the first time I was on Celexa, for 7 months. The second time (4 months) I had no effect from it, no effect the third time (2 months) either, and now I`m on it ofr a fourth time (been on it for about 2 weeks) and no effect. Temple Grandin did say that sometimes when you take a SSRI and then go off it and then go back on the same one, it doesn`t work any more. That`s what happened with me. And then a nurse said that was true.

Wow ana, looks like you found a miracle drug ! Im kinda new to the drug world, i have been taking riddlin which didnt work and switched to aderall which is pretty much the same thing. it is for my CFS, anyways not a good idea to give concentration medication to some one who tends to focus on topics too much,

But im curious about celexa, is it an anti depressant? i thought all antideressants kinda just numb you ? or is it pretty much a stimulant like riddalin?
just curious here. nice to see some one from montreal here :)

Celexa and Ritalin are completely different drugs, but depending on who's taking what, they could have the same effects.

but these family of drugs seems to be interesting. Are these antidepresents? I ve been told all they do is numb your mind so i try my best to stay away from them. Have I been misinformed?

I have been on Celexa. It numbed me out so much I no longer would feel anything. The 'dark' side is apparently where my art comes from, and Celexa took it away. I quit taking it shortly after being put on it, and now I'm 6 months without any medications whatsoever. I went through a rage-filled breakdown about 6 months ago - horrible, hopeless, angry and resonating feelings I had never experienced before - I had severe depression, anxiety, panic, hostility, alcoholism [after 4+ years without any alcohol] exacerbating all of that. It was very intense for me, and terrifying for the people around me.

Since I'm tend towards that macho nonsense of "owning your problems" and "getting it together" I decided to stop cold these medications [alcohol, too] that were essentially killing my creativity - I feared their effect on my personality would be far worse in the long run. I've been using adaptogen herbs ever since - Cordyceps Sinensis, Rhodiola Rosea, Rhaponticum Carathamoides (Maral Root).... These keep all the dismal, anxious, nervous stuff at bay (including suicidal ideation), while allowing me to feel OK, and be able to be artistic. I also took up regular exercise - running several miles a day. Sunshine. All of it helps.

What I mean by "numb" is that it literally folds away other parts along with the dark, anxious stuff. Important personality parts for some people, so much goes missing they don't feel like themselves. This was the case with me. I became veneer. I was uniformly happy, not anxious, not mad, not...anything. Due to this I actually began feeling more suicidal - and happy about it, also. It was surreal. That scared me the most. I did gain an important perspective, at least.

New age anti-depressants have different biochemical actions such as SNRI, SSRI, and ones that do not fall in either class. Also, one person may feel "so and so" side effects while another feels something totally different. People have different percents and sometimes chemical make up of their drug modifying enzymes in their liver. Also people most likely have slightly varied brain chemistry which would alter how they react to specific medications.

The easy answer is if the autism is complicated by symptoms of depression or anxiety. If this is true, SSRI's would have a FDA indicated use. Currently, no SSRI is indicated for only autism or aspergers treatment. It may help with social aspects if anxiety or depression is affecting your social ability.

My reactions to SSRI's are too numerous and severe to stay on them for any length of time.
