It's not odd, I like walking too. I live in the suburbs so there's no forests around here but I still enjoy going for long walks and I go through all the parks and reserves which in a way, is like the only natural nature I have around me. I wish I lived near a forest.

Man that sounds sad. I'm grateful again that most of the time all the trees here block out the sun

are there any caves or abandoned tunnels?

Since I live in a suburb of Miami, there aren't many places to wander alone but I go to the mall, a really nice outdoor one where I can just walk around and look at the nature , the flowers, and the waterfall. It's so nice there. It's quiet in the mornings/afternoons so that's when I take the chance to go there. And it's right by my house.

When I went to Lebanon, I would wander Hamra Street, the most popular street, in the mornings, early, after getting my Starbucks. It was so nice just walking in the cold, winter morning, practically alone in the street, and it just calmed me, and helped me start my day right.

You are so freakin lucky to have gone to Lebanon...ANyway I love to roam alone at night or around dawn. its dangerous where I live at night but somehow I just dont care, and the tranquility of a midnight stroll helps :D

always have...
I used to sneak out of the house when I was between 2 and 3 years old and would go into corn fields and fields of wheat, back then we lived in a small village in Germany.
I always found my way home and my mother would get less and less worried about me.

In the garden when I was about 4-5 years old I loved to watch and touch the bees which were happily going about their business on a large flower bush.
I did this for a long time until one day I got stung and I don't know what hurt more the sting or that my beloved bees could do something so hideous, my mom explained to me the reason why I got stung and I still love the bees :O)

When I was 7 we moved closer to the black forest and there where awesome woods in the place we lived, separated by lush green meadows and little creeks. I would know all the names of the local flowers and herbs , my mother taught me them.

Sometimes I would play for hours in those cold streams that came from the mountains and accidentally peed my undies cause the water was so cold or I was lost in my nature play.

Later with my friends we build fords in the woods or catch fireflies in a jar and put them under our bed.
Frog eggs were always plenty to find too.
I was very fortunate my parents instilled in me the love for nature.

At 15 , I walked into the woods way past midnight in the pitch dark after my boy friend broke up with me, it was the only place were I could breath and calm down from my crying. I walked and walked until I reached the lake, my final destination. I then turned around and went the long way home.
It was really scary and I would not recommend this to anyone .

In Canada I used to get up at 4h in the morning in the summer to go for my run in the woods.
My favourite spot was a "hazel hein" , were the hazel trees grow together and form a canopy over a small path. It was like a sanctuary to me, a place out of 'mystic' times.
Owls would fly above me and deers dart into the bushes.
Now there is not much left of these woods , within 5 years one house after the other popped up.
The "hazel hein" still exists but I barely go there anymore, the urban sprawl is a major 'turn off'.

I sometimes pity the children of today who only know their computers, TV , cell phones et.
I would not change these memories for all the soft and hardware in the world....

Since I moved this past summer, I've taken to roaming the town and the university campus in the dead of night. Its really not all that scary, since Laramie isn't known for it's crime. I tend to percieve thing well in semi-darkness, and I just really enjoy the feeling of being awake and aware while everyone around me is sleeping.

I was never able to do this before, since our old house near Memphis had an alarm system that was always active at night, and would beep if you deactivated it, which would wake up my parents. Thankfully, the house we are renting now doesn't have one (probably because of the lack of crime in the area, it's just not necessary), and since I'm the only person who sleeps downstairs in the house, it's only too easy to unlock the back door and sneak out of the house.

I haven't done it in a while, though. For one, my mother has been pulling several late nights on the downstairs PC trying to get college stuff together for me and her, so I can't sneak out until she goes to bed, at which time I'm too tired to do it. Secondly, the last time I was out at night, I was walking around the university campus and was seen by a campus police officer. I wasn't doing anything unlawful, but he still decided to tail me to the edge of campus. Apparently he thought I wouldn't notice him if he hung back about 300 feet. Unfortunately, my ninja training has conditioned me to notice things like that when I'm out alone. It freaked me out a bit, so I went home.

lots of nice forested trails and area to walk down by the Red Deer River in Red Deer, along with downtown during the day when it isnt inhabited by bums and vagrants.

I think it's inappropriate and unacceptable that Aspies living in such heavenly beautiful places post photos for us, who live in the marshland by the desert burning in the scorching sun, to see. I got an envy attack. So much so that I'll try to post my photos of Jerusalem to get back at you, grrr.

(just kidding. amazing photos, thanks for posting them!)

The high school I used to go to had woods all around it. Sometimes I would just leave school and go walking in the woods. The last time I went it started raining and I loved it. When I came back when school was letting out, I found out the they were looking for me. I didn't really get in trouble but it stressed me out.

There are woods everywhere in my town. All I have to do is walk down a hill beside my house and there they are.

Do you prefer night or day walks? I like to go out at night and continue into the early morning

Hope you have better luck about running into people than I do once I was walking in our town's cometary with my grandparents tending to the graves some kid stared at me while I was fetching water. I'm very pale and love dark clothes
