One of the key issues in american schools is that the inevitable bullying isn't solely a student activity. Teachers and administrators often join in. My brother was terribly mocked and publicly humiliated in school by a particularly cruel teacher. If the teachers lead the students tend to follow.

The only reason I didn't get attacked physically as well as verbally is that as a 6 foot (180cm) 200lb (91k) male I was (and still am) the shrimp of my family. Other people got hurt but not us. We were always too big and too aggressive for the tiny little locals to risk pissing off.

When we moved back to the states we were treated like freaks. From the top down the school system around here doesn't approve of "different". Neither does the culture for that matter.

Well Quebec is in some way "different". Even though I was bullied in 5th grade and 7th to 9th grade I certainly don't see any of the high school cliques show in U.S. shows. The students pretty much mix together. Of course, I mat be wrong getting I was going in a small private school. But, I really didn't see anything that may me think it's like that in Quebec schools. Quebec Tv shows happening in Secondary school (middle and high school) like Ramdam or Radio-Enfer don't show any cliques.

My parents curently live in New-Brunswick and it's easy to notices the difference when I visit them. The cars and the peoles are... bigger.
Also, Montreal is a great place for underground and world musics. There is also some available french movies and old animated shows you can't get elsewhere in North-America.

I think Germany lacks the typical groups. The system of groups is less strict. This does not mean that there was no bullying, but the teachers were not as tolerating towards it, except for PE which was horror.
