Oh, Yes I've had many persons tell me, that what I'm doing is nothing more than trying to get one's attention and that AS is not really and is more than something of a psychosomatic manner in total form that is..Honestly, that's absurd cause AS is very real whether, your able to see it or not..These days I do my best in helping others to understand that not only is Autism real but, it's variant AS realistic too..My only grievance is how there have been times I've been looked at as being someone whom fits a social=pathic or pschopathic profile..Personally, I've followed the law more often than I care to count as, I've tend to follow a very strong moral code yet, there are people out there whom feel AS is nothing more than a excuse to do things or such..Well can't alter bigotry, ignorance, nor racist like views very easily...

I can't handle telling people I have AS because I'm high fuctioning and "seem normal" so the reaction if any is like I'm attention seeking or a come on. Just yesterday someone was telling me a story about their nefew's son who has "aspergisens" disorder. For me to say so, just a cop-out, so I don't.

Interesting thread. The idea that we can sense disapproval from others, whether or not such disapproval was really intended, really caught my eye, and to me raises a more general question of how we think others see us.

I remember a quote from somewhere ... "we are what we think that others think we are."

That's probably a little too glib to be completely true, but personally I am often in the dark as to what others think of me. I can sense the disapproval if it's blatant, but it's also happened numerous times that someone was irritated with me and I was oblivious to it.

A corollary to this is that I'm not what's called a "good judge of character". While I have a well-developed sense of morality and right-from-wrong in the abstract, I have a difficult time distinguishing character traits in people. When I was much younger, I was somewhat of a sucker for charismatic leaders and couldn't tell if they deserved my loyalty or not. Nowadays that's not a problem, because at my age I basically don't follow anyone ...

I'm with you. I don't tell anyone.
