I absolutely hate it when that happens. Yesterday I had one line of a song going over and over and over again in my head all day and all night, it drove me mad. I tried listening to other songs and forcing myself to play other songs in my head but nothing worked. I never seem to get more than a few lines of a song stuck in my head at a time and it invades my thoughts.

I have a song in my head pretty much all the time while I’m awake. If I try to fight it, it usually just gets more annoying. Other times I’ll go with it, and hum or whistle it out loud (when I’m alone of course).

There are definitely certain songs that return over and over. After awhile, my mind will do strange things to the melody or the tempo, too, to the point where I come to know the song as an unrecognizable remix of the original. Hmm, maybe I should start a cover band?

I’ve also come to associate this phenomenon with anxiety. If I try to just sit still and listen to the silence, it’s very hard, and I’ll find myself humming the song again. Lately I’ve tried to pause and ask myself what it is I’m anxious about at that particular moment. Then if something comes to mind, I try to drop what I’m doing and address it. It’s worked a couple times; there’s a surprising amount of “hidden” anxiety I carry around.

My psychiatrist finally called back after I had called x3. She said she'd refer me to a neurologist. She also said to take 5 mg of Abilify and see if that helps. After that, my BF tried to talk to him but the music kept drowning him out and I couldn't follow what he was saying. So, I called the on-call dr and he said to take 10 mg of Abilify. It might take 2 wks to see a neurologist so if adding the Abilify back in doesn't work, I don't know what will! I am freaked!

All day for me it has been "Down on the Corner"...different random snippets...right now it's the instrumental beginning...and then just "Early in the evening, just about supper time"....rewind...repeat....It is more bearable when I sing along with the earworm...

I am so used to this though...my left-handed multi-track mind sometimes makes it possible for there to be more than one earworm going on at the same time...and I am very susceptible to catching earworms at the barest mention of one.

I practically have my own earworm radio station built into my head....snippets of songs get layered and juxtaposed....constantly.....I am glad I have a musical outlet....

I get this all the time, but it is easy for me to ignore. I've had tinnitus in my left ear since I was just a little boy, so it is generally easy to make things into white noise.

Thanks to poopylungstuffing, it turned from one song to just repeating, "Down on the corner!" I really don't mind music in my head, and it's never really gotten annoying to me. I enjoy it here and there too.

I don't notice it when I'm listening to things, just like I don't notice my tinnitus much either unless I specifically listen for it or it gets quiet. I guess I got lucky!

Too bad it is hard to control what gets stuck in ones head....Sometimes it is a good song...I had Famous Blue Rain Coat stuck in my head for at least 2 weeks one time.

This happens to me constantly. It's usually either the terrible music we play at work, the terrible music they play on TV, or one obscure line of a song I like that I can't place, and it drives me up the wall. Usually singing it or listening to other music works for me, but sometimes one song persists for weeks on end. I was interested to learn that certain medications can get rid of that, actually.

Well, I used to take 15 mg of Abilify every day but it was all out of my system for a week. So, I took the high dose (from my standpoint now) of 10 mg of Abilify all of the sudden and slept from like 7 pm to 4 am and woke up with some repetitive music, but no echoes, loudness or chorus singing. Maybe this did the trick!

That's it now, "I want to ride a bycicle" song is now going round in my head and will prob keep me awake tonight.

I get this a lot and it does drive me crazy too, just a loop of a song forever repeating. This is esp worse at night. I get it in the daytime too, but the song only pops up when not concentrationg on someting else.

I'm suposedly NT.

Yep, thanks that tune is well and truly planted.

Vee

I still have the music (5 secs or so) going through my head all day. I have been stressed tho and I wonder if that is why it's continuing. My doctor never did fill out the referral form for the neurologist and she's not even there today to do it! Then, they want me to wait 6 wks to see someone. *sigh!*

Definitely an OCD thing.

OCD people I knew had similar issues and would often complain that their brains' music players were permanently stuck on "REPEAT". They complained a lot about the same cheesy pop-songs and "earworms" going round and round in their heads every five minutes (Sounds like a lot the playlists commercial radio stations today lol   ).

I'm not sure if I'm fully OCD, but things loop around in my head everyday.
They have done ever since I was little.
My brain sometimes feels like a broken record.
I've also enjoyed reciting stuff and repeating things.

Most of the time, I don't usually mind, especially if the song is something I like.
If it's an uplifting song or one with an interesting theme/lyrics, it can actually help get me through the day and work better. I like having a "song for the day" especially when I'm relaxing or on holiday. So I usually don't try to fight it, just "let it play" at the back of my mind.

This why I try, whenever possible, to use earphones and choose the songs that I listen to.

If however, I find the song particularly obnoxious (or I have to silence my mind in order to be able to concentrate on a task) I find that:

Sitting quietly out in nature and getting away from noisy radios/tvs helps.
Or focussing on a specific sound/white noise.

Listening to relaxing classical music (that isn't catchy or repetitive can also help).
Any repetitive music such as dance tracks and pop songs should be avoided, if you want a completely empty head. Anything created with a drum machine and a synthesizer will tend to "stick" in the mind.

If I listen to certain songs I'm familiar with, these can cancel out the irritating "earworm" going around in my head. After that, my head's usually clear, though sometimes, the old irritating "earworm" is replaced with newer earworm of the song I listened to to try and cancel out the first "earworm"!

Some of the noise pollution today is...well I find quite irritating.
Muzak in shops is the worst, particularly when they put it on so loud that you can't hear yourself think... literally!

Constant media bombardment, adverts, tvs, radio stations can get very repetitive.
It's utterly useless me memorising all the lyrics, but my industrious brain doesn't seems to care what it memorises, as long as it memorises.

Unfortunately, it's not always possible to escape from the "works" (abominations? :?) of "Black Lace" or "Britney Spears".

Hope this helps.
