Definitely an OCD thing.
OCD people I knew had similar issues and would often complain that their brains' music players were permanently stuck on "REPEAT". They complained a lot about the same cheesy pop-songs and "earworms" going round and round in their heads every five minutes (Sounds like a lot the playlists commercial radio stations today lol ).
I'm not sure if I'm fully OCD, but things loop around in my head everyday.
They have done ever since I was little.
My brain sometimes feels like a broken record.
I've also enjoyed reciting stuff and repeating things.
Most of the time, I don't usually mind, especially if the song is something I like.
If it's an uplifting song or one with an interesting theme/lyrics, it can actually help get me through the day and work better. I like having a "song for the day" especially when I'm relaxing or on holiday. So I usually don't try to fight it, just "let it play" at the back of my mind.
This why I try, whenever possible, to use earphones and choose the songs that I listen to.
If however, I find the song particularly obnoxious (or I have to silence my mind in order to be able to concentrate on a task) I find that:
Sitting quietly out in nature and getting away from noisy radios/tvs helps.
Or focussing on a specific sound/white noise.
Listening to relaxing classical music (that isn't catchy or repetitive can also help).
Any repetitive music such as dance tracks and pop songs should be avoided, if you want a completely empty head. Anything created with a drum machine and a synthesizer will tend to "stick" in the mind.
If I listen to certain songs I'm familiar with, these can cancel out the irritating "earworm" going around in my head. After that, my head's usually clear, though sometimes, the old irritating "earworm" is replaced with newer earworm of the song I listened to to try and cancel out the first "earworm"!
Some of the noise pollution today is...well I find quite irritating.
Muzak in shops is the worst, particularly when they put it on so loud that you can't hear yourself think... literally!
Constant media bombardment, adverts, tvs, radio stations can get very repetitive.
It's utterly useless me memorising all the lyrics, but my industrious brain doesn't seems to care what it memorises, as long as it memorises.
Unfortunately, it's not always possible to escape from the "works" (abominations? ) of "Black Lace" or "Britney Spears".
Hope this helps.
