Greentea, here is another curious thing about 09/09/09 - it is the 252nd day of the year which
according to numerology = 9.

9 is a very good number representing Happiness and Long Life

Congratulations, Greentea! It's been a long time in coming. Having followed your long quest for diagnosis, I was really glad to read the title of this post.

A song of congratulations for Greentea ! (sung to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It"):

If you're aspie and you know it, flap your hands!

If you're aspie and you know it, flap your hands!

If you're aspie and you know it,

Then your face won't even show it!

If you're aspie and you know it, flap your hands!

:D

You know Greentea, last night I was talking to my friend (I had been crying, was a bit hormonal really, but was just upset because I felt like I could never fit in/belong) and she told me that perhaps this was one of the downsides of being diagnosed; that it made everything appear worse than it was, and made me attribute everything to AS. She said that if I had never been diagnosed I would probably be happier.

I said that I was certain it would be the opposite, that if I'd never been diagnosed I would never have a reason for my behaviour, or why things always went wrong, or why I always seemed to do the wrong thing and hurt people/be lazy/etc. That I would be forced to attribute it all to character flaws, or that I wasn't trying. This is why I understand what getting a diagnosis means to you. Because even though I went through my teens with a diagnosis, even with it there I still found myself hating myself and blaming myself for so much - despite knowing about the AS. If I hadn't known, how much worse would it have been?

Reading your topic has again helped me to solidify my belief that it is a good thing I am diagnosed.

I wish you could have been able to be at the Asperger Women's conference (if only teleportation devices existed!), so millie and I could have met you in person, but hopefully we can meet some day.

Congratulations, Greentea! I hope now things in your life get easier and even out... I think this will be just the beginning for you and a better life. It must feel really good to be able to silence any worries that perhaps you may not be able to get a diagnosis... Im sort of jealous too because i might be going for one soon but Im still not sure whether to or not.

zen, the process is a lot simpler than I had thought. She checked the 3 DSM criteria, that's all. I have a feeling (maybe wrong, of course) that anyone could get an AS dx, if they just learn what to say about each of the 3 criteria...

Well done Greentea 8)
I bet the memories of what the previous shrink said seem pretty silly now.....I mean that always did seem silly, but after this you've really got validation for what you thought at the time. Hope you get the welfare support you were looking for too.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful support and kind words!

Cosmiccat, thanks for that. I was indeed wondering what 9 meant in Numerology or Kabbalah. There were lots of weddings here in Israel yesterday due to the date.

Janissy, I can totally understand. We did overwork you, I was fretting about it from the moment I started that thread. I knew the moment would come when you'd burn out - I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. God gave you a role as a translator between Aspies and NTs, like He gave Elliot in ET. Not less, not more than a translator. Thank God that God didn't make you a therapist - you're too good for THAT, brrrr! You and I could co-write a book - I have all the questions and you have all the answers LOL

Wanda, that should be our hymn, it's soooo good!

Sue, you cracked me up with your word games, as usual!

sunshower, I imagine that a time will come when this day is less fresh in my memory and I'll start blaming myself again for not trying harder. I think it'll be a lifetime job to remind myself always that I do try my best, and that I'm not supposed to be superwoman and overcome my AS. I'M NOT SUPPOSED NOR ABLE TO OVERCOME MY AS. PERIOD. This is nowadays the motto I keep repeating to myself.

Congratulations, Greentea! To me your ASness always seemed very obvious. I'm glad that a professional was able to give you peace of mind.
