I think it's more that she wants answers for a lot of unexplainable frustrations she's been having. AS may or may not fit, I'm not qualified to make that judgment. I just know that it can really help to have an answer for why things have happened a certain way.
(And besides, I think those with Munchhausen's would target a hundred other disorders before they got to AS. It's too subtle and vague for the general population to get what they want out of it.)
I'm not so sure I agree with your parenthetical statement. AS could possibly provide an explanation for being different, a way to seem special, while still possessing an above average intellect. There are many misconceptions about AS, and I can understand how some could be drawn to the dx. I am not saying, however, that spazzergasm is one of those people.
I know this seems baffling, as we know how frustrating AS can truly be. There does seem to be a warped view of AS out there.
