hey! :) perfumes give me a sore throat and i get easily disgusted of body odors.
so much that i wonder if i will ever have a boyfriend for a significant period of time because i get every day more disgusted of odours. even my own saliva like one of you stated before.

i like the smell of cigarette though, i feel it hides bad breath. but it does give a sore throat when i have a cold.

IS THERE A TREATMENT FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE? otherwise it seems i will only date a bottle of air freshner or a box of smint.

I seem to be much more sensitive to smells that everyone else, most of which have been mentioned already: nail varnish and/or remover, strong fish (although not tuna - it's one of the few fishes I enjoy), foot odour (my sister's are often terrible but I can pretty much always smell them, even when others can't), takeaway food (particularly on public transport or at work) and the usual faeces and urine smells. I'm not too bad with perfume as long as it's not more than a few sprays - I hate places like Boots or Selfridges around the perfume bit - all those perfumes mingled together and so, so strong :eew:

I've always known that I had a sensitivity to sound, but I am only recently starting to suspect that I have a mild sensitivity to smells. It seems that I can detect smells that are farther away or fainter than most people would pick up on (although when I point it out to someone else, they notice too but didn't give it any thought.)

It's rare that I get absolutely overwhelmed by smells, but nonetheless things such as nail varnish and tuna in an unventilated room really get to me. One time, the landlord varnished the floor of an apartment immediately below mine, and the fumes that rose up to my apartment were so awful I had to leave. I later discussed with him that it would have been nice to have known he was going to do this, and he apologized and didn't realize that the fumes were that bad.

I have a very strong sensitivity to smells. I cant stand strong perfumes if I get to close to someone wearing one or if one was sprayed in a store like Axe I start coughing my nose starts to itch and run and then I will sneeze until I can get far away from it. My own perfume makes me sneeze lol. Same goes for automatic air fresheners and or scented candles. Also body odor really bothers me too. Cigarette smoke is bad too I cough and my throat and eyes will burn. Smells just overwhelm me.

I also smell things more then other people do which is bothersome like I will smell something and ask someone else if they smell it and they go no more annoyance than anything. Like for example coins after being in your hand has a smell my fiance thinks Im crazy thinking that.

My hearing is very sensitive too. I cant take loud noises I get startled and my ears will hurt bad too.
I am sensiitive to bright lights and I cant stand air conditioning it makes me very cold. Also with unexpected touch I will jump a foot.

It's funny, I'm hypersensitive to pretty much everything but smells. Sometimes I don't even notice them. If anything I'm hyposensitive to smell, or maybe it's just that I pay so much attention to sounds and sights that smells just get blocked out.

I love to smell my blankets. Or the cat, when ever I have him over. The first thing I do is hug him close to my face. But since I'm allergic.... Love the smell of new cars, hell when I'm writing with pen, I always smell the ink, white out, markers. I love the smell of the towel closet, or even wet dirt. Man going outside after a Noah flood (and Calgary, the rains get very wild out here, when they do come). Heck I'm smelling Playstation controllers, and this freaks my friends out if I'm playing

Usually I'm not even aware of smells (too busy focusing on other things). I find smells in general to be revolting, though, so when I become aware of them its all I can think about.

Certain perfumes or too-strong perfumes will make me feel woozy and get a headache.

The three smells that make me gag are: butter in a frying pan, ground beef in a frying pan, and tomato sauce on spaghetti.

As some of us have perfect pitch, I have perfect smell. Like Grenouille from Perfume book. But I don't kill young girls and I have my own BO

I was wondering if anybody (well obviously there's got to be a few out there) experience hypersensitivity to smells. Do you ever find that certain smells nauseate you or make you gag uncontrollably sometimes to the point of vomiting? Or are there certain odours (like nail polish for example) that just seem overwhelmingly strong and give you a headache?

I had an experience today with tuna. For some reason I have never been able to tolerate it's strong fishy odour. My boyfriend decided to eat a dish that had tuna in it. I was in a different room and I could still smell it. I went into the kitchen and my boyfriend left the empty can out and I started gagging so hard i nearly tossed my cookies. I then demanded that he throw it in the garbage and take the garbage outside. I sprayed the kitchen with febreeze and could still smell it. It just wouldn't go away. I even had my boyfriend brush his teeth and he still smells like tuna. I find it rather frusterating.

Has anybody else had any similar experiences?

Yes to all of the above. I am sensitive to smells and find that I can get nauseated quite easily by certain types of smells.

I'm this way with artificial tangerine and orange scents, certain cleaners, pickles, and mustard... most colognes/perfumes as well. I find though that in general I don't have a hypersensitivity to smells (at least, not to the degree that I do sound/touch/light)... it's just that when some smell bothers me, it REALLY bothers me.

I'm somewhat sensitive. My most-affected sense his hearing, however.
