You didn't think Adam was exaggerated? Really? I thought that character was almost every aspie symptom dialed right up in one person. We all have more or less symptoms but Adam seemed like a very extreme case.

Nice enough movie though.

I thought he was more severe than myself, but I related to many aspects of his personality, and at least he wasn't a savant. I'm sure there are Aspies like him, therefore I don't think he's exaggerated.

I like Flushed Away. Roddy, Rita and Sid each have their own set of autistic traits and setbacks, yet, all three of them are high functioning, or aspies.

Well this really doesn't count, since it was just a brief scene in the movie, but I loved War Games when it came out way back when (despite its glaring movie-flaws). There was a computer geek named Melvin who sounded like a grating air horn, and who was so immune to the non-verbal language that his co-worker, in exasperation, issued this gem, "Remember you told me to tell you when you were acting rudely and insensitively? Remember that? You're doing it right now."

Does anyone think that Juniper in "Benny & Joon" is on the spectrum? I know she's supposed to have schizophrenia but they never reveal a specific diagnosis in the movie and the movie came out in 1993 so she could easily have had undiagnosed severe asperger's. She freaks out when Sam is making too much noise and when Benny asks her why she got so upset she said, "He was - he was in the air and-and-and - with a thing and - that was really loud. It was really loud." Sounds like overwhelm from too much visual motion and loud noise all at once.

And when she freaked out big time on the bus, it could have been a simple anxiety attack/meltdown brought on by sudden huge change. I know that I have a tendency to meltdown when I'm being rushed by others into big things like that. Suddenly Sam shows up and convinces her to run away from home - yeah, that's definitely meltdown material.

Anyone else think asperger's when they watch that movie?

I saw War Games about a week ago and "Aspie" was the first thing that came into my mind when I noticed that sentence. It felt shockingly familiar :D

I love some of the dialogue in mozart and the whale, some really funny quotes I can pick out of that.

"Donald, Donald, Donald, there's one thing I know, and that's chicks!"
"you lose your job?" "no my woman, and my shower curtain."
"I can call isablle, she doesn't hate me"

i thought so too actually. every trait in the book, and no personality shining through, which is why i preferred Mozart & the Whale. Good point though, Asp-Z about the savantism being a stereotype as well.

War Games! i never thought of that. great film.

I really enjoyed "Where the Wild Things Are" and wondered if Max was autistic.

That thought crossed my mind as well. A beautiful film that should have had more acclaim.

I was really disappointed in "Where the Wild Things Are" because the Wild Things were just a bunch of emo whiners and not at all like I had imagined them all these years.

My favourite is probably 'Mary and Max'. Okay, the first half of the film is a little slow and then the second half goes too fast. Also, the history of Aspergers is a bit messed up in it, but it has everything I like in movies; animation, dark humour and great characters.
