I did this a lot as a child - I would often read books ten times or more. The more times I read a book, the better I know it, and I like to know something in great detail. I rather know a few books in great detail than many books superficially. I studied English literature at university, and for each book that I wrote an essay on, I read it at least twice. Nowadays, I find myself occupied by so many things that I've lost this focus on books, and I'd like to regain that focus and start reading and rereading books again.

There are many books (particularly Discworld novels) that I have read 10+ times. I have read the entire Harry Potter series at least three times, and many more times than that for some of the earlier books. I've read "Ender's Game" (by Orson Scott Card) probably 20 times, and I've read the other books in that series 3-4 times (except for some of the newer "companion" books that I've read maybe twice).

Do you re-read books often, and how much?

The most times I've ever re-read a book over 200 pages long was four times.

Hi MathGirl,

Thanks for starting this thread. Reading is a special interest of mine.

You seem to have a much milder version of this condition than me

Two books immediately come to mind:

The Road Less travelled (Dr. M. Scott Peck)
- I have read this book AT LEAST 10 times (since age 22) and probably closer (........closer  ) to 20

Illusions (Richard Bach)
- This book is less than 200 pages and I know for a fact that I have read it over 20 times (since age 22)

Both books were recommended to me by the same person :!:

There are 2 biographies that I have read far in excess of 4 times each:

Blue Highways: (William Least Heat Moon)

A Walk Across America: (Peter Jenkins)

My latest literary obsession is

-The Black Swan (Nassim Nicholas Taleb)

I am currently in the middle of my 3rd reading of this book, which I read as much for philosophy as I do for mathematics.

ps. Did I mention that I like reading
