Why do couples share a bed? The thought of that horrifies me

Two main reasons:

1) Sex, plain and simple
2) To be closer to their partners and other emotional cheesy stuff

Stereotypically, men focus more on 1 whereas women focus more on 2.

true, but i would add a couple, and i think each person could make their own list:

3. warmth, cuz it gets really cold where i live
4. security, cuz i was the victim of a breakin while i was alone in the house with my daughter a few years ago

(but #1 is a definite plus!)

Because one day our parents took their furniture back and my grandmother gave me a queen sized bed. I wasn't very happy actually, because I don't like being touched when I sleep. So I go to bed several hours before he does and get up a few hours earlier. We also make no physical contact while we sleep.

Waking up next to the same person for a long time can be beautiful. Like watching a sunset. We've been waking up next to each other for about 15 years and my first thought when I see him sleeping is how I should be kind to him. He reminds me of a child the way he sleeps.

The worst part is me dropping stuff and clanking around when I get up and he's sleeping.

This kind of reminds me how I did not know the connotation behind "Sleeping with someone" meant. I thought it just meant you just slept in the same bed like I would do with mother when I was scared or we were in a hotel room. Yeah, it was just sharing beds to me, but when I said "I slept with my little cousin" people would give me weird looks like I was committing incest or something...

I think it is more for the sake of "closeness" and security and the fact that sex can be kind of spontaneous so yeah...

Yeah, that's like when I say "I slept with my grandpa when I was little" - people immediately think the worst. Sheesh.

yeah, that's why you always have to be sure to add "in the same bed" for clarity.
otherwise people make ridiculous assumptions

I know, I hate it! For example, I like using the word ecstasy... I just think it is a fun word to say, it's basically a noun-form of ecstatic. I heard it in a song on the radio, I think that Adam Lambert song... anyways, yeah...

Is it apparently a name for a drug or something to do with sex?

I've only shared a bed with my mother when we're on vacation and there's not enough beds in the motel for all of us to have our own bed. I'd like to share a bed with a man one day. *sigh*

My parents don't sleep in the same bed any more and have separate bedrooms, saying that they're too old for that. Though they SMS each other at work when they want a "sleep over". Anyway, some people don't like like sleeping the same bed because it restricts freedom of movement. I would of thought a lot of aspies wouldn't like it.

I'd never sleep in the same bed with anyone else. It'd drive both them and me crazy. Me, because I would have to sleep as far away from them as possible, them because I always move while falling asleep. I like to kind of 'rock' when I fall asleep. The only one I share a bed with is my cat. I don't mind her, and she doesn't mind me.

Yeah, sharing a bed is a terrible idea. How can anyone get any sleep like that?

Even worse is if you fall asleep while cuddling - then you wake up and your arm is asleep (or completely dead) because the circulation has been cut off for god knows how long. And you can't move to free your arm w/out waking her up. And if you're both sleeping, even if not touching, still there's movement and you're gonna bump into each other and wake each other up, etc.

It's just ridiculous.

I could never sleep in the same bed as someone else. I enjoy having the opportunity to move throughout my entire bed and more importantly I don't like people in my room, to think of someone else in my bed is horrifying. All that moving around and trying to stay still so that you aren't yelled at.

I never understood why people do it, it seems to be some sort of unwritten rule.

I love the feeling of sleeping with someone in bed although I've never slept with a girlfriend before but I always used to imagine how lovely and comfortable it will feel.

I don't like sharing a bed. I have problems sleeping and having someone in the same room let alone bed makes it much worse. Apart from snoring and not having enough room, their presence just bothers me and I start to get physical symptoms like tingling nerves in my arms and legs.

I like a huge bed to stretch out in with lots of covers.

Actually I've caused my own arm to go asleep far worse than my gf ever has...

This ^ ^ ^

My DH finds it to be a blessing (as do his friends - thanks for talking about me at work) that I just turn over and fall asleep after sex. What can I say, I don't like the whole touchy feely thing.
