Do you find it easier to write things down than say them?

I definitely find writing easier to talking, especially when it comes to emotional topics. Also, when I play WoW with my guild mates I mainly type, even though I have a microphone and the majority of other players speak. It's a little strange sometimes when people talk to me and I respond by typing, so I'm slowing trying to build up confidence to talk more.

Yep, in fact I can say things much better in writing because I think over what I'm going to say, but I'm crap knowing what my emotions are no matter how I'm trying to say it.

Yes I do which is why I used to write my fiance in the past 4 pages notes just to get across how much I cared and loved him, now after 4 years he just knows. I do tho like to send texts on my phone and or emails then talk in person especially on the phone. On a computer I can delete parts I want to omit, and talking well you cant take things back so you have to watch what you say and or deal with the fights and or stuff that comes along with that. Been there done that.

Almost always.

Today I have to visit a GP. And it is a new one. So for what I need to ask, I will just write a letter and hand it to him.

I've always had an extensive vocabulary, both written and verbal, but I find that when I try to explain what I'm thinking, I tie myself in knots. I think something, it makes so much sense in head, and then I try and explain it, and 'pff... gone.' I hate it.

I like to write when arguing with someone. It helps me to not get too angry and it helps me get my point out easier, because there are too many thoughts going on in my head to get it all out.

YES. I have an incredibly hard time articulating things verbally, but I'm a very good writer. I would rather write than speak any day.

Definitely. I prefer to text or email rather than use the telephone or have a face to face conversation.

Absolutely, especially with doctors. I can walk into an appointment knowing EXACTLY what I'm going to say, but then as soon as the doctor asks me to talk, my brain freezes up and can't get the words out.

Always, always, always easier to write. People have a much easier time understanding as well. My written communication is vastly different than my spoken communication. Luckily I have worked most of my adult life in places where most of the communication takes place via instant messaging, even if you are in the same room with somebody. Discovering instant messenger in my life (when I was in college) suddenly opened up new avenues of communication with people that I was simply inept at in spoken communication (I've gotten better... but I rarely make friends that I don't talk to in writing first or a lot).

If I have something difficult to communicate (especially an emotional topic, etc) I will write down what I want to say in advance for best preparation. Otherwise I ramble, I get upset, and I go round and round and start repeating myself as I feel I haven't adequately conveyed the message (and apparently my voice drops a lot when I'm emotional so it's also physically hard for people to understand me at times...so I've been told. My lisp gets worse too). I will write 3 or 4 drafts until the message is succinct and clear and then repeat it over and over again until I can mostly stick to it before the important conversation. Writing orders my thoughts a lot more clearly as well. Ad libbing anything is the worst.

Interesting. Me, as much as I prefer typing to writing, still, sometimes, with emotional stuff, I have to get out pen/pencil/marker/crayon and paper and write. Like my deep down emotional part can't connect well with the me who types. By writing by hand, I'm cutting out a mental middle man. And sometimes that's helpful.

As to the original question... yes, with emotional stuff, easier to write/type than talk. I used to really not at all be able to talk about emotional stuff, only write it. I've gotten better. But, still, for various reasons, writing is still easier.

I type for the sake of speed, but I also like writing by hand. Writing by hand is the best way for me to remember something later. Even if I never refer to the note again, after I wrote it, I can picture it in my mind and try to make it out. This works better if I wrote it by hand.

this is so me. the best thing i evered learned in middle school was how to type. knowing how to type allows me to write at a pace more akin to my speed of thoughts.
