I hate when someone takes photos of me. I look horrible almost all the time. sometimes my eyes look like they pop out of my head, then my nose is enormous and so on.
And if I have to smile, it looks very dumb and unnatural...

I only look good in photos if I I take them myself because I am into photography and know how to get a good picture, but most people snapping a picture dont have the pateince to work with me to get it right.
I do have one trick though, practice posing in the mirror and do this until you can get it right with ease.
Also it helps to have a pocket mirror to look at yourself before the picture is taken so you can rearange your face as I call it....then hold that pose and it goes better. However most people dont have the patience to work with all that fusing.

Most of time, I like to photograph nature and landscapes and close ups on facinating objects. but can photograph people too. My sister on the other hand has a million dollar smile that she can whip out like its nothing...and she hates her pictures even though she looks good. If you tell her that she looks good in that picture, then she will say I wonder how ugly you think I really am. However, I dont think she is ugly at all and she is photogenic, so some of it is a matter of perception too.

Catching me off guard does not work well either...I just look spacy.

Nearly everyone is highly critical of how they look in photos. Most have just learned to deal with it and not say anything. But I've come to realize that not liking how one looks in photos is almost a universal.

Do you think there is evolutionary psychological reason for this??
I mean maybe it is unatrual for one to see themselves outside of themselves thus that why it is repulsive to us???

I think it's more likely the limitations of casual photography. Because most people are really happy with the results when they go to, for example, a boudoir portrait-taker where their hair and make-up are fussed over and they are dressed just right with just the right setting an dlighting and a photographer takes time to pose them properly and takes a massive number of pictures so they can throw out about 90% of them.

Most snapshots and even most generic professional photographs (e.g. school pictures) are, honestly, not very flattering. The same with video: watcht he same actor or actress on two different shows that use different lighting, different cameras, etc. and you will often see someone who looks very good on one show and looks like a sea hag on another show.

I have been photographed two times since 1989 and both of them have been posted here. Not quite good poses in either of them.
