I really struggle with large crowds and the noise at the shopping centres. It's feels like the inside of my head is being attacked from within.

I find their utter lack of soul depressing. I don't really enjoy shopping unless it's for food, books, CDs or DVDs anyway so I tend to avoid malls and go to individual shops. Plus, the malls in Cambridge are frenetically busy at the moment as everyone's trying to beat the Christmas rush and shop early.

I don't mind shopping centres, but nightclubs that are crowded and have really loud music cause me to get hot, sweaty, anxious, and I get tightness in the chest making it hard to breath, as well as a headache and the feeling of wanting to get the heck out of there as quick as I can. I also feel panicky and kind of agitated....I always tend to go towards a wall or corner and make my way to the door by such. For some reason, I don't get this way when I am at an a fair or such that is outside. Although it is crowded, it is not so bad since I am outside in the open and not in a loud crowded room where I feel trapped.

I could not have said that better if I tried.

I get stimulation overload, mom says my eyes go blank and my face very rigid when I am in a crowd. It is just like a part of a poem I wrote:

"Shrinking to a dot among dashes all around
me. Sensory shutdown, my mind melts into
a puddle on the floor and people are rushing through it.
All I can see is a blur of color and energy as I fall...
into rush hour."

Hey thats cool. I never usually like poetry but I like what you have writtten.

I can't say I hate them, unless they're very busy and crowded, but I do become "lost" in them. Some days I can go in, get what I went there for, and get out efficiently.

Other days, it doesn't work that way. Those days the colors, lights, and shapes all confuse me terribly and I can be found wandering around in a daze, randomly picking things up and setting them down again, absolutely lost and not knowing what to do or how to leave. Security guards sometimes take note of my aimlessness and think I am on a shoplifting excursion. But in fact I'm just lost, quite lost and confused.

Love the poem jojobean

I had to go to a shopping centre today, I could no longer avoid it. I think I left my melted down mind in a puddle on the floor in front of the one of the shops. I was in such a hurry to get out of the rotten place I didn't have time to scoop it up. When I got home it took me an hour afterwards to calm down. I HATE shopping centres.

Happy shopping everyone :x

I hate them if they are full of people. But I have found that shopping an empty Wal-Mart at 6:30 AM can be pleasant.

Yes, this is why I always try to go early in the morning to avoid the herds of stampeding NTs helbent on pushing you out of the way.
It is sure a lot more manageable before the people arrive. After that its sensory overload hell. :x

I can block out lights, smells, and even the noise. But I cannot block out the site of the many crowds surrounding me. I start becoming bad-tempered inside, and I try to not let it show, but sometimes I can't help myself, like glaring at people in my way, or crossly stepping out the way when they're too close to me, or huffing and puffing like a raging bull.

The trouble is, I try my hardest to focus on the items in the shop - but instead all my attention just gets drawn to the people. There's just so much going on when the shopping centres are busy, and I cannot stay focused on the browsing.

I don't get it - how come NTs aren't in a world of their own, yet they can block out all the noise and people and be able to focus on what they're looking at in the shops? I reckon NTs do have a world of their own when they want to be, but can switch straight back in everyone else's world on cue.

But how come ''a world of your own'' is a big AS symptom, but all I do is get involved in all the movement of the people around me?
It's like I never have a world of my own - and sometimes I wish I did, so I can escape when out in a busy environment.
I just wish I could block out all the things I don't want to see, and stay focused on the things I do want to see. But I can't do it because my brain isn't able to work like that.

Shopping centres make me nauseous.

There are people everywhere, and they seem so happy and unaffacted, which makes me even more uncomfortable.
I get lost, so nowadays I always go with my parents, my assistant or my follower.
I just abhor the abundance of colours and stuff, it's overwhelming. I can't stand the noise and the smell.

It makes me feel uncomfortable but I actually can deal with it a lot better compared to before.

I hate shopping centers.
People bumping into me, loud conversations, crying kids, people yelling...
I hate it. Not to mention I feel really sleepy after being in the stores for a short while.
I have to sit down in a quiet place or go sit in the car til i feel a bit recharged. i hate trying on clothes also... i hate shopping so the shopping centers arent good for me at alllllll.

to add insult to injury, the shops re now full of flashing lights, "press me" toys (half of which don't work, you have to press them all to see which ones do), so many stupid things that look like you have to touch them (cue fluffy, velvety, silky, crystally....) AND the worst thing of all....

:skull: CHRISTMAS CAROLS!! ! :skull:

If anyone was allowed to act how they wanted in public, I would be shopping every day. But because it's so natural for most 20 year old females to love shopping, and when I'm pulling a bored, miserable, angry face, people look at me. I suppose I can't blame them - if a dog was mioawing, they will look. So it's the same thing. People see a young ladie as pretty and trendy as me they naturally expect me to be in my glory. If people can just feel and act how they want in public, without eachother looking at eachother who are expressing the opposite to their expected behaviour for their age and gender, then I would be fine. But putting on this social front with big huge crowds of all different people - it's difficult for me. People have seemed to turned shopping into a very social environment now, which is a pain in the arse.

I can usually handle shopping centers or places like the beach, where the people are anonymous and I'm not expected to interact with them. Sometimes it's even enjoyable. I can't handle nightclubs, however. The few times I've been to nightclubs, I was so panicked that people started asking me if something was wrong.
