I've been able to channel my AS to do great things that normal people wish they could do, which seems to be a shield against negativity.

People think I'm weird when I walk in Nassau County in New York State. Everybody over the age of about 16 drive.

I didn't get my license until I was very old.

Tell me about it.

Agreed, and, moreover, these people are more likely to mess with us in the first place than the garden variety hoi polloi. This is why so many "regular" people might not understand what we go through, because they don't have these problems and never realize that some of the people they get on fine with are Dr. Jekyll to them, Mr. Hyde to us. Amazing how the Jekyll-Hyde types are able to pick us out just in passing.

I think people with autism and aspergers are often viewed as "weak". Even when a NT doesn't know that somebody has the condition they can somehow pick up on the fact that they are different from everybody else and sometimes they view the person as an easy target for bullying, abuse, and sometimes worse.

I think that even though a lot of Aspies are really smart they also tend to be naive which I think comes from the poor social skills and inability to read other people properly and you would be disgusted at how many people take advantage of that. And there are Aspies who do get lonely and awkwardly seek out friendship and companionship and when you are lonely you are vulnerable and become an easy target for monsters.

I think a lot of people conclude that Asperger's = low self-esteem, and therefore game to be used to boost one's own self esteem. I've found a lot of people enjoy antagonising Asperger's sufferers, knowing that they haven't the same ability to deal with it as others. I think it's additionally attractive to these types of people because, while they could achieve the same sense of control over another by abusing - say - the mentally ret*d, an Asperger's sufferer is seen as a greater "prize" because, although they might not admit it, they see the mentally ret*d as less than human.
