Half of me feels very old, like I must have been born in another century, but the other half of me feels like a little kid of about eight or nine. It confuses me.

I want to elaborate on my first post:

When I was in my teens, I associated primarily with adults.

I'm the same. From about 2 years ago to 4 or 5 years before that, whenever I was at a party or family get together with my dad's side of the family, I would always sit and listen to the adults talk, while all the other kids my age were off playing. I never was like any other kids my age, and I'm still not. But now I don't go to parties (by parties I mean birthday parties, or other functions that aren't family dinners), and since I am almost an adult anyway, and because I don't see anyone but my grandma and two little cousins from my dad's side, I sit with the adults anyway, since I don't have any relatives on my mom's side that are my age. Well, I have a cousin that's like 13 or 14 maybe, but he's a douche and I've always disliked him. :P

I am definitely more mature than many people my age, although because of my lack of social skills I often say inappropriate things, and since I am usually not good at putting my thoughts into words, people think I'm immature and dumb.

Although, I stepped out of my comfort zone this past New Year's Eve and went to a party with my mom and step-dad, to one of their friend's houses, and there were two boys my age there. Usually in a situation like that, I'd sit in the corner while everyone else had fun, but the two boys invited me to light fireworks with them, play video games, and hang out, and I thought it was pretty fun, and nice of them, since most people wouldn't do that to me. They were both 15, but to me looked like they were 17 or 18, and they didn't believe me when I said I'm almost 17, they thought I was like 14 or 15. 8O Many people seem to think that I look really young, I don't know why I do. On the other hand, people say I sound like I'm 19 or 20, so it's strange. :P

Oh yes. My constant embarrassment is still sleeping with a specific plush toy nightly. Without the toy I am simply unable to sleep. I also have 5 plush toys decorating my room. I also enjoy reading books for 7-10 year old males while simultaneously reading a book on the Theory of Relativity and such complex topics. Lastly, I enjoy animated shows and I still enjoy the Pokemon franchise Nintendo games. After contemplating all of this - I think that I may be more immature than initially thought!

It's a good thing that I hardly ever get guests to my house, because there are plush animals all over the place, as well as Donald Duck magazines, cartoon DVDs, toys etc. I love those things, but I think most people would treat me differently if they knew about them and I hate when people treat me below my age or maturity or like am an alien or something. I don't think enjoying things that are mostly aimed at children is a sign of immaturity. I personally don't see any more maturity in "adult" things like getting drunk and going to parties. I can handle my adult responsibilities fine and with a lot of maturity, but I see no need to have "adult hobbies" if I enjoy "childish hobbies" more.

That was poetry, right there!

Actually, I did not compose that poetry, unfortunately.

Gees! It just happened again! I hate it!

Somebody asked me if I knew how to measure the distance of the stars. So I ended up giving this talk on parallax and spectroscopy, with sordid details on trigonometric aspects and quemistry, for the parallax and spectroscopy respectively and with visual aids on the whiteboard.

One of my colleagues seems to understand my issues and payed attention for the entire monologue. But at the end I left with the feeling that they just wanted to know the keywords for that matter. Such as parallax and spectroscopy.

That makes me feel socially ret*d.

Well I think for me it's an imbalance in maturity. My thinking and problem solving ability was developed early, as well as self-control. By the time I was 15 people would trust me with large amount of money, important stuff and even illegal substance, and knew I'd be very responsible. But when it comes to this social thing, about figuring out relationship, about guys and girls, I didn't have a clue until mid 20s. I didn't really feel like I've matured in that area until my mid 30s. I still watch kids movies and enjoy them.

On the other hand, there are some days that I still feel like I'm 9. I seem to be stuck in 1984 for some reason.
