I have trouble hearing what people are saying when there's background noise. Even when there's not background noise I sometimes have trouble figuring out what people are saying. I can hear them clearly (I have no problems with my hearing) but I have issues sorting sounds into words. This is especially a problem when I'm not familiar with the person's voice.

I also have some issues figuring out implied meanings and nuances. I can pick these up when I'm reading a book, but not in a real-life conversation. I'm pretty much oblivious to flirtation, irritation, and so on if these things are subtle.

Several of these apply to me. Language turns into gibberish but as a teenager I started reading lips and the problem is less of an issue these days. If there's background noise it all falls apart, especially if I can't see someone's mouth.

one more:
i find it almost impossible sometimes to understand people with foreign accents. even or especially english speakers with a heavy brogue.

and i do stutter sometimes if i didn't mention it.

and if i pay attention to trying to appear as if i'm paying attention, i find myself just saying "ok. ok" and not hearing anything really.
