i have always been kind of an aspie, but I have never been diagnosed.

I have been to 21 heavy metal concerts, including Metallica / Guns-n-Roses tour back in 1992. And at the time, my English was heavy-accent, since I had been in the US for only four years.
45,000 thousand people were there, and I went to that concert by myself, like I always did.

Well if you like the music I would go. I have been to some metal concerts myself (even been to a few festivals), and I really enjoy the music and the company of the people close to me, but I get really uncomfortable with the other people present at the concert. Especially to metal concerts, since some people tend to mosh, get really energic and generally act out of the ordinary. I saw Iron Maiden this summer (who's my favorite band) but some of the people who were standing around me were a wild bunch. I have a hard time in these situations since I tend to read others intentions as hostile so that unfortunately made it difficult for me to focus on the music.

A few months ago "Ice Cube" had a rap concert about 10 minutes from my house. It was a lot more mellow than a metal concert even though he was talking about shooting people a lot of the time.

I don't like Within Temptation [sorry!] but it wouldn't bother me to go to a metal concert.

I've seen several metal bands - like Nightwish, Metallica [x3, front row x2], Iron Maiden, Mastodon etc. and the only annoying thing I find about metal concerts are people crowd-surfing and doing circle mosh pits. You're technically not suppose to crowd surf, but if you're out of reach of security, then you can do whatever the f**k you want. After I had someone fall on me while they were crowd surfing, I realise why they would ban it from concert venues.

Circle mosh pits are just lame.

Remember to bring decent earplugs! You can get hearos [which are great] for a pretty decent price.

As for the goth scene - I used to hang around the goth scene back when I was a teenager. I was more of a metal-head but I was friendly with some goths. Aside from being a bit morbid, it wasn't anything particularly outstanding about it. The guys wore some pretty hot pants, though.

Yes I also saw Iron Maiden this summer at the NEC in Birmingham. I absolutely worshipped them all the way through my teen years but my tastes have changed now. Now I listen more to stuff like Kylessa, Crowbar and Eyehategod. I was quite surprised by how rowdy the crowd was around me also.

I also went to sonisphere and saw the big 4, and have to say that Slayer blew away the other 3 (including Metallica) and had a really good time.

The hard part for me at this metal festival was not the crowds or the loud music, but the sleeping in a tent just inches away from other tents and people partying all night and keeping me awake, this really began to take its toll on me after a while. There was just no space or privacy (and no sleep) for three days was a real killer.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Kvelertak, Hawk Eyes, and The Melvins in November. I reckon Kvelertak are going to be pretty crazy.

Yeah I know, that was a huge deal to me too. Luckily I live near the festival so I could go home and sleep from time to time, and get rested. And while I like the crazy atmosphere of these festivals, the unpredictable behaviour of people is hard for me. I get quite uncomfortable and it therefore saps a lot of energy.

Most goths I've met are really nice people who tend to be somewhat artistic and like similar kinds of books to me (I'm really into vampire books - though not Twilight!!). I first got a liking for goths from my young writer's summer camp, where about 5 out of the 13 kids were goths.

I'd never go to a concert, even a Pink or Evanescence concert (those are my favorite artists), because of my auditory sensitivities.

Not to rain on anyones parade, but I am having a hard time relating goths to heavy metal......as I thought goths tended to be more into goth rock, death rock and stuff like that. My intrest in metal has caused me to consider myself a metalhead, though some people confuse that with being goth.......not to mention just in general I like to wear dark colors which a lot of people associate with goths.

Though I am sure there are goths who enjoy heavy metal, just as I enjoy some goth rock.

Ive had great times watching HM concerts at home, but the real thing didnt quite work for me and ive been to plenty.

You know how sometimes you listen to heavy music and your really into it like electrified as if on something? and then at other times your mentally tired and theres no point, so you just turn it off. I think being in that environment mustve burned me out v. quickly, so ive nothing left to enjoy it, and just enter a 'watching the world go by' mood instead. It was never 'scary' just.. my brain had a lot to process so i wasnt in the best mood for it.

One time i did get a really good sustained rush, i was watching from afar (outdoors). So the sensory impact was at a level i could manage. I was also with my sister.

drugs (eg. alcohol) and company may go along way, if thats something that usually helps you relax at parties etc.

I voted yes thinking that it was asking me if it would scare me. Too many people scare the crap out of me and especially with loud music. I'd have a panic attack. Plus, I hate metal music. Especially gothic crap.

Heavy metal is not my thing. And yeah, goth people do scare me.
"Abby" on NCIS is goth, for those of you who are wondering what goth is. She has the dark hair, the weird clothes, and a dog collar around her neck. She sleeps in coffins and has voodoo dolls. But she's not completely goth, because she also hugs her fellow co-workers, likes dogs, bowls with nuns, and drinks coffee. What's that about? :?

She's a mall goth.
And goths don't have to be miserable or dark or scary. I've known goths and they've been the nicest people. It's like emo. They're not always miserable people. It's just a scene where a bunch of kids dress up and listen to the same music. I was far too miserable for the emo scene.

I've been to many concerts with many different scenes. At hardcore/punk shows there are smatterings of goths. I don't really mind them as long as nobody calls me 'emo' or tells me to 'cut myself' or some other positive phrase people reserve for me because I choose to have flat hair.
Metal gigs are usually very loud and sometimes earplugs won't cut it.
I've been at festivals where metal bands would be playing a stage and just walked straight past it. Their fans are just average people dressed up. My friend is into metal and she's got an autistic son and we talk about his issues.
The ones that have 'DIE EMO SCUM' on their jackets are the ones I wish to avoid.

Think about how goths feel being related to mall goths or hot topic wannabes or even emo kids.

I actually enjoy punk, goth, metal, hard rock, some pop music, some rap... Really, I enjoy a wide variety of music.

I was actually into heavy metal and punk before I did the goth thing, and it continued into the goth thing.

This isn't quite heavy metal, but I just bought tickets for George Michael. The concert is called Symphonica and has a classical orchestra theme so it will be a much more peaceful and sedentary crowd.

I'll start by saying that I have been (and continue to be to this day) friends with goths. They were one of the groups I hung out with the most during my middle and high school years. Dressed in black when I felt like it. Was a cutter for many years (regret it to this day). Smoke and drank a little, though not often. So I know what goth culture is like firsthand. And yes, I like heavy metal. I'd go to a heavy metal concert if I ever got the chance. However, I wouldn't nessasarily go to a Goth Metal concert (Evanescence is the only Goth Metal band I've listened to). I'd prefer to go see The Used, or Combichrist, or God Module. Thursday and Envy are good bands I'd also like to see in concert. Might have to bring earplugs since it'd be loud.
