I could have sworn I've seen several aspergers criteria lists that included something like, "Has a tremendous, impressive vocabulary, easily demonstrated when discussing subjects of interest, but difficulty initiating and holding basic conversation."

I'm not making that up, either. By the way, I have the exact same problem, but not even as high an IQ as you!

I'm the same way. I think that realistically no one is simply 'a genius at everything'. Everybody has things they are good at and not so good at. Having a high IQ doesn't mean you're super quick at everything. You get the idea

In my opinion, intelligence is not the only kind of smartness. It's kind of a strange idea, but I think you can be intelligent and not witty or wise or analytical. Different skills take different types of smartness, and different people are smart in different ways.

Indeed, the popular version of "smartness" is social intelligence, and you may have all the intellectual ability in the world but if you have the social intelligence of an aspie, people will still consider you "dumb".

One of the biggest components of social intelligence is apparently a TOM. If you have hard time imagining what another person is thinking, communication is going to be difficult and your "communication skills" (As neurotypicals like to call it) will subsequently suck, regardless of your eloquence, vocabulary or intellectual ability.

Think of NTs and Aspies as represented by the chipmunks...Chip is obviously NT, chittering in an endless stream of incoherent non-sentences that make no sense, and Dale thinking about everything but not saying much...

Who is the smarter?

I consider my answers very carefully, and quite frankly I have gotten over when people think I am stupid because I do not rattle off noise to distract from the fact I do not know...on forums it is an entirely different matter, I am the big cat because I am able to take my time and some people have even given me the compliment of being right 90% of the time when they actually sit back and consider my posts, not a bad statistic at all :)

Never feel pressure to try to BS your way through a conversation, simply simply slow down, take your time...maybe using filler statements and then come up with a rebuttal that leaves everyone blown away.

Never ever allow anyone to rush you, otherwise you end up giving them the upper hand. If you know what you are talking about then you are the king and no one ever tells the king to hurry up.
