I'm 19 and have always sucked my thumb, much to my parents' chagrin. I used to be pretty embarrassed about it, but around about 12th grade I established that either my friends weren't going to care, or they weren't as good friends as I had thought, so I started doing it around them (and only them, not strangers or anything) and as I predicted, none of them said anything.

When I was twelve, I started going through a Peanuts (Charlie Brown) phase, and as Linus was my favourite character, I picked up the blanket habit from him (I tend to mimic the people/characters that catch my interest at any given time) and it became a habit. I gave up dragging it around everywhere when I was about 13/14, and it stays in my room now, but I still have to sleep with it, which makes for some pretty warm summer nights!

I had a blanket way passed the normal age, as did my twin sister.

It was "lost", but years later I found out it was intentionally left at my aunt's house and later burned.

My 6 year old nephew has two blankies left. I wonder when his will be "lost".

I have two stuffed animals Sne (which actually was a Mickey Mouse) and Arthur (stuffed dog from Raggedy Ann and Andy) I got them when I was a baby, and still have them at 33. Arthur actually still sleeps on my neck, since I was 6 months old. They are amazing and I will always have them as long as I live.

I sucked my thumb till it became socially inappropriate - I was probably around 7 or 8 when I stopped.

I had a favorite blanket. I had to carry it around. Finally I stopped when I accenditally burned it.

I place it on top of a lamp - good thing my mom walked in and saved the day/night.

Ah, but I was a child.

I was going to post this as a topic btw.

Yes. though not my thumbs. I sucked my middle and ring finger until I was about 10. Still don't know why I did it.

I never sucked my thumb, but I did have a blankie. I couldn't sleep without it and took it everywhere. My parents say I just had to have it or I'd get very upset. I loved to rub my cheek against it and hold it, it was so soft.

Never sucked my thumb or had a blankie that I can remember, but I've always had either a cat, dog or teddy bear to snuggle up with.

I was a thumb sucker until I was 7 and my parents became adamant that I stopped, and they started putting band aids on my thumb, soaking it in hot sauce, tying it to my hand etc until I finally stopped. I had a soft cut out of a silky sheet that I used as a "blankie" until I was 9. I still have blankets I am particular about keeping on my bed and couch as I like their textures but I am not sure if these count as "blankies" now, and I would not refer to them that way (but my mom might sometimes).

I know I've replied to this thread a couple of times already, but I just remembered that I did go thru a thumb - sucking phase when I was a kid....can't remember when I stopped; all I know is that it continued a lot longer than everyone around me wanted it to. I think when my thumb - sucking and pencil chewing was met with strong disapproval, I simply moved on to biting my nails, which I currently still do. :(

As to blankies...when I was a baby, a relative made me this really cute blanket that had bunnies on it, with yellow flannel on one side. I think it was in the crib with me when I was a baby, but I never really wore it out, so it's still like - new...in perfect condition for me to pass on to a kid of my own. :D The other blankie I have that DID get tons of wear and tear was this really thin, silky doll's blanket I impulsively grabbed from my grandma's house after she'd been committed to a nursing home and her house went up for sale - all her stuff was going to be transferred to a storage facility, and my father told me we'd never see the house again. I loved the doll's blanket more than the bunny one, but due to how thin it was, it quickly fell apart, and I started having to knot it together. These days, I keep it in a little bag hanging from the doorknob in my room at my parents' house. I still take it out every now and then.

I still do sleep with a blankie, tho - altho now it's a raschel throw with Lightning McQueen on it.
