I think I used to be kind of a buzz kill in the OP's sense, when I was much younger. But now, if someone finds my insistence on having certain things certain ways obnoxious, I will generally just leave, or find my way around it.
If they won't turn the music/loud thing down, I will cover my ears. If they insist on doing something stupid, I'll tell them to do whatever they want, but I'm just going to watch. If I say something dumb and the person is too normal to deal with it, I just won't talk to them again. If they seem to still want me around but insist on still doing the thing that I can't handle, I will just tell them strait up that either they have to stop doing that or I'm just going to leave.
I used to be embarrassed when I was the only kid in school with her hands on her ears and wincing in pain during a fire drill, but now I could really care less because I figure if someone is so arrogant that they will become annoyed by something so trivial, I have no reason to be around such a person to begin with.
