I'm feeling a lot better about myself. I had a bit of a meltdown and I had a chance to talk it through with everybody throughout the morning when I was feeling better. I'd like to thank all of you that I've replied to so far. I hope I didn't miss anybody. :D

I can relate...a little.
But don't forget you are who you are, you can't change that, and you shouldn't change it for anyone else on this forum. I am always on the side of the ones who express themselves rather than the ones who criticise the expression of others.

I agree. I'm not going to suppress myself anymore and I'll talk about my special interests more often. I've tried an experiment and it didn't work. It's time to act naturally again. :)

Ha, I do feel the need to cry, a lot, I just can't! Seriously, I physically cannot cry.

I often feel the need to cry, too (it's a mixed blessing that I usually can't...)

I like hearing about other people's special interests. I value the passion that people express when they have lots to say about something--and I get to learn about new things that I wouldn't learn about otherwise!

I hope you get the chance to connect with lots of people who are smart enough to care more about who you are than about whether or not you match their definition of "normal" (i.e. people who would force a cure upon you). "Normal" says nothing about who someone is and what they give to the world.

CR,

have you ever thought about making podcast series about your interests?

would it be possible for you to do that?

i am sure that many people would love to listen to (and see!) those… they could be very informative and interesting.

i do listen to many podcasts myself about various interests i have… and my guess is that some (maybe most!) of these are made by aspies that have special interests…

just a thought…

i always enjoy your posts on WP!

I'd love to make a podcast about my interests, but I don't have all the right equipment to do that. What do you need in order to make a podcast?

not much actually… basically a computer, a microphone and some software.

you can get some idea of it by reading and watching some webpages about podcasting… here’s a google search that will give you plenty of links to get you started:

I think lots of people really like you Cockneyrebel. :D

I surpress my urges to talk about tropical freshwater fish and shrimps quite a lot but it feels much better to let it all out.

You've said before a few times that you are a mostly happy person, that you are satisfyied with your life

Well I'm not, I am a severely unhappy person totally unsatisfied with life

I think it is you who is lucky.

The idea of curing us is ridiculous. There are many downsides but over the years they have caused me to strive to become a more well rounded person. As a result I have become somebody who spends his time reading, writing and engaging in debates most people my age would be unable to partake in.

If anybody things autism is inherently bad then they ought to see the list of historical people who are believed to have been autistic on wikipedia, even if some of them are correct, for example Isaac Newton, Lewis Carrol, Satoshi Tajiri (I love pokemon) Then I think autistic people, though we may suffer, have a lot to offer the world. We are not a disease to be cured, we are rough diamonds that once polished are the envy of the eye.

You're right, I am lucky for those things. But if you would like a receptive audience for your interests, you can PM me and unbottle it, I won't mind. Though you might want to be prepared for reciprocity :)

Thank you. You seem like a really good friend. :)

Thankyou :D I try, though it is not always easy due to my tendency toward obsession, absorption, and that it can be difficult for me to maintain friendships or discriminate friendly ribbing from intentional insult (more so when I was a teenager and younger).

You were one of the first few people to welcome me to WP and I appreciate that :)

I'm not exactly a fan of The Kinks, but as a fan of hard rock and metal, I appreciate their contribution to music and would be interested in hearing more about them though it would not be be an interest I would pursue myself.

I could figuratively talk your ear off about the Internet. My current job and one of my previous jobs requires me to know in great detail how the Internet works, and I know more about that than my job requires :D

Not terribly interested in animals.

I did a school project once about the Olympics and still remember a lot of the research I did. I find the history and politics of the Olympics interesting.

I know a bit about the 60s via my obsession with rock music and guitar, as well as general interest in history, and would be happy to discuss it.

I have also been very interested in the history of sporting teams, even sports I'm not hugely interested in per se. Tell us more about the Canucks :)

What interests you about Routemasters? I'm very interested in trains and the railways, though unfortunately I don't have the time to get as deeply into them as I wish I could :(

That's for sure!

We are going to act like Aspies, that's what we are.

Please don't feel like you are the only one. I actually cried so much last night, I woke up with a pounding headache this morning. You're not alone Mick. I'm here for you too.

I also hope that I get the opportunity to be around people who accept me. My two closest friends acceptme as I am, but I need more people like that in my life.

Can anyone point me to a thread where people are annoyed by the aspieness of another member? I haven't seen this lately, so I'm a bit curious about it. (I might be the biggest duck in the puddle, lol. I don't think I am, though...)
