The older I get, the more often this happens to me, too.

I am suffering fro some kind of memory loss at the mo and I forget words all the time and call things by the wrong names all the time. I will call the tv the microwave the door my bag my hand etc etc.

My son finds it amusing. I however find it irritating.

I guess that happens to everybody....

It is both funny and annoying to me, because many times words come to mind in the wrong language, so I look like I'm showing off my language skills, while it is actually the opposite

Quite often. The worst part: I am a polyglot, fluent in three languages, and still sometimes I will forget the word for a specific item in all three languages! What's the point of speaking so many languages if I cannot remember the words I need in any of them?!

Me, too.

I have the wrong word come out on a semiregular basis. Someone will be confused by something I said, and I'll have to replay the audio to find out what I actually said. I call it oatmeal in the mind, mush in the mouth syndrome.

I believe this can be called paraphasia. A friend of mine has it because of her migraines. I do it because... pick a reason. My brain ain't like other people's.

Earlier this morning, I forgot multiple words all at once. It was truly frustrating, trying to remember something simple I had looked at the other day, but every identifying word had left my brain for greener pastures.

It's interesting that what is being talked about here are forgetting nouns, not verbs or numbers (I assume ... anyone not talking about names of things?).

There are plenty of research studies (and ongoing) that have shown how different areas of the brain are used in processing different parts of language, and nouns vs verbs differences are a common theme.

I find I can sometimes forget the name of something, and at other times my mouth fast-forwards to using the wrong word until my conscious brain catches up to correct myself. Most of the time I can tease the word out if I try not to concentrate too hard on it. Like memories or facts, they elude all the more that they are grasped for, and only come bounding up wanting attention once my back is turned & i'm actively ignoring them. Brains are odd things, but fascinating.

It mostly happens to me on days during which I actually talk to people.

When it happens online, I make google give up the word.

Another thing I do is visualize something that might have the word on it. Once I was trying to say something about Nutella, and could not remember the name at all. So I visualized a jar of Nutella and read the name off the label.

I actually did that earlier this morning, but I don't remember what the word was.

I find I can't come up with a good enough description to google the word often... but it sometimes helps.

Well, I do have another two decades of practice. ;)

True, I hope to be able to do that in two decades ;)

For me its most common with nouns but it does occasionally occur with verbs too.

The nouns observation is interesting. For me, I mostly forget nouns and adjectives, which are the words most closely associated with pictures in my mind. Being a visual thinker, I feel that the vivid picture of the thing that I am thinking of may actually be interfering with my recall of the word for that picture.

For the most part, it is only nouns with me. Every once in a while, I will tell my kids to go eat instead of go play, or something like that, but usually it's only nouns.

Sometimes I forget words when I'm posting on WP and I have to go back and edit my posts.
