I didn't have any problem learning to tie my laces as a child.

I did have a problem learning to tie them so they didn't come undone all the time.
Consequently I had lots of practice of tying my laces!

But I only learned how to tie them so they would stay tied last year - at the age of 38. And I still get it wrong quite often.

I couldn't tie my shoes until the third grade, and I still sometimes have problems.
...It was actually a kid at school who told me.

I showed my son the video a few posts back. He wasn't interested.

Can't tie, won't tie!

It's not an essential skill these days.

I'm 14 and almost 15 and I still can't tie my shoelaces. I get my freinds and family to teach me and even when I do it over and over again I just can't do it. I think it's because there are to many steps and I can't process it mabey. :x

When I was little I was offered the opportunity to skip kindergarten and go directly to first grade but I was held back because I couldn't tie my shoes. (Ironically, after being offered the chance to skip, I was then almost forced to take kindergarten a second time because I didn't socialize.)

It took me forever to learn to tie my shoes and I only learned by doing the bunny ear version. To this day, I can't do the "proper" version that everyone else does. I've tried a few times to learn but I guess I just don't see the point when the bunny ear version is so easy and efficient.

I didn't learn to tie my shoes until I was in fourth grade. I thought it was embarrassing and ridiculous that a person who was academically above average should have trouble doing something like that. It made me feel like a small, ret*d nothing. I had a real self-loathing by that point because I felt that only my academic achievement kept me from being seen as a complete idiot.

I was nine when my awesome sister taught me how to tie my laces. She taught me the "proper" way. It comes undone easily on its own so I tie the loops into another knot.

About 12 years ago I had these great Nike shoes. They were bright blue. And they had a zip to do up on the top of the foot. No laces. They lasted 10 years before I had to say goodbye to them. Haven't seen shoes like them since.

I had trouble learning as a kid and had my mom tying them for me or wearing Velcro for a long time. I eventually learned around age 9 or 10.

I could not tie my shoes until I was 10 years old. When I was a little kid, I wore children's shoes with Velcro on them, but when I got older, I started wearing shoes with shoelaces. My parents used to tie my shoes for me, and they tried to show me how to tie my shoes, but I still could not do it properly. They did not know how to show me or demonstrate how to tie my shoes in a way that I understood. When I was 10 years old, my parents enrolled me in a small private school for special-needs students. The school had a occupational therapist who worked with me & taught me how to tie my shoes. It took me a few months to get used to tying my shoelaces, but I eventually got a lot better at it. She even showed me how to tie double knots, which she used to call "monster knots." It has been very easy for me ever since then.

I still can't tie shoes. I can do the bunny-ears thing if necessary but I really don't like it. It takes me ages, sometimes a few attempts, and is unpleasant. Which is annoying because I currently have a pair of boots I like that have to be tied every time. Grr.
I get around this wearing pull-on boots, or getting sneakers and doing the weaving style thing through the lace loops and then never untie them, just slip them on and off.
I'm on a crusade at the moment for velcro shoes. You seemingly cannot buy velcro shoes in adult sizes. It sucks, there are all these awesome shoes I would definitely wear - meant for four year olds. Drat.

I couldn't tie shoelaces until I was probably around ten, and it wasn't for lack of trying, on my part or my parents'. I think for me, the problem was poor fine motor skills.

I had trouble learning. My parents showed me a short cut way (making two loops and tying those) but eventually my friends saw me tying it that way and said it was WRONG! So they taught me the other way. That was around 5 or 6 years old. Eventually, I got it.

Same thing with writing. I used to hold my pencil differently. My friends told me that was WRONG and showed me the right way. That was in my early teens.

I've been trying to tie shoelaces since I was 10. My parents have shown me over and over how to do it, and my primary school teachers even gave me a fake shoe with laces on to try and help me practise.
I'm 18, and still not got the hang of it. I know what to do, but my hands just won't have it.
